16Mil for Modric, around 4 or 5 for Dos Santos, 16Mil the other year for Bent. It seems they are able to fork out big money year on year.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

they've been selling everything bar the Kitchen sink recently, so i guess the manager has been told to raise the cash himself if he wants to spend that sort of money.

Well I've seen a fair few rumours and frankly I'm looking at some of the players and thinking our targets are wrong.

Berbatov £25m-£30m
Villa £25m
Keane £20m
Barny £18m
Moutinho £18m

To fill in a few blanks as the above alone doesn't explain my thinking, spudz are reckoned to be lining up Villa with the money we give them for Keane - even though they claim he's not for sale. The bitters want Moutinho, maybe a gamble at the reported price but any more so than Barny? (allegedly he has a buy out clause that has to be activated by 25/06 every year) The mancs want Berbatov for £24m/£25m even though spudz reportedly will sell him for no less than £30m to Premiership clubs (I won't put Tevez at £35m because I think he's worth less than half that) And if Van Der Vaart is available for the same or less than Barny then let's sign him, if I remember correctly he scored a brilliant goal at the Euros.

Saint - I can't really see the full-backs providing the width, if anything I reckon they'll simply weaken our defence because I've not been too convinced either wants to defend or is that capable

The reason we are after Keane and not Villa is because Villa will be staying in Spain!
Why does everyone always choose to believe the negative rumours?
There has been no deal for Keane as yet and there sure as hell has been no deal for Villa to Spurs either.Nothing is signed.

So why the fuc'k is everyone going on about us getting Keane for £5million less than they are getting Villa for?
Fed up whinging about the facts so lets whinge about rumours as well, anything will do as long as it makes LFC and the manager look like they are getting done in the transfer market again?

Its almost certain Villa wont go to Spurs, its almost certain Keane will be an LFC player!
Villa yes is an excellent player but is by no means a certainty to succeed in the EPL where as Keane is.

As for whinging about the price, get over it thats what you pay for a proven EPL player who will score 20+ a season!

Posted this in the rumor thread , thought i'd post it in the gareth barry thread also.

ASTON VILLA boss Martin O’Neill will launch a bold ‘cash and kisses’ bid to finally kill Gareth Barry’s £18million move to Liverpool.

O’Neill is ready to offer a club-record four-year deal, giving Barry a 50 per cent pay rise.

And with Liverpool spending their money elsewhere — £20m on Tottenham striker Robbie Keane, for instance — O’Neill is now showing signs of confidence that he can hang on to the England midfielder, 27.

Northern Irishman O’Neill has never previously talked financial figures with Barry because Villa’s key man still has two years left on his current deal.

But in talks with Barry today, O’Neill plans to:

PROPOSE a hike in Barry’s weekly wage from £42,000 to £63,000.

CONFIRM the midfielder will continue his role as captain at Villa Park.

THROW IN a £1m glamour game for Barry’s testimonial.

SMOTHER his wantaway star with love and praise.

If all that fails, O’Neill might consider a clause allowing Barry to leave the Midlands — for Liverpool, Arsenal or wherever else — next summer if this season fails to bring success.

He revealed: “In my view, Gareth should hang around for one more year to see if we can make the sort of progress everybody wants.

“If that success doesn’t happen, I’m sure we’d all wish him well.”

Barry came on as an early sub for Wilfred Bouma in Saturday’s hard-earned 1-0 Intertoto win over Danish club Odense and received a rousing reception from the Holte End faithful.

It was in stark contrast to the jeers he suffered last week at Walsall.

And O’Neill, falsely accused of attempting to humiliate the player by picking him for that reserve friendly at the Bescot Stadium, insisted: “Gareth was fantastic against Odense.

“He showed what he is all about — and the supporters showed exactly how much they like him.

“Most of the crowd were shouting things like ‘Only one Gareth Barry’ and ‘Barry for Villa’.

“It seems to me that Gareth is valued more by Aston Villa than he is by Liverpool. That should tell him something.

“He would be a terrible loss. That’s why I hope any discussions can point us in the right direction.

“I am prepared to revisit the issue of a contract, plus a possible testimonial. We intend to be as positive as we can.

“Hopefully, all of this admiration and affection for Gareth will have an effect on the lad.

“He is human after all and we all like our fair share of praise, don’t we?”

With Villa safely qualified for Friday’s UEFA Cup draw, O’Neill bristled at any suggestion he might now contact Liverpool to find out whether Barry stays or goes.

He said: “Why on Earth would I telephone Rafa Benitez or anyone else at another club to discuss one of Villa’s own players?

“Do I need Liverpool’s permission to pick Gareth all of a sudden?”

I'm talking about the principle, pay an extra few million for the very best players. Even if Villa cost £40m, I'd be happier signing him at that than buying to 27 odd year olds for around £20m each.

Keane scored 15 in the Premiership, even Emule scored 21 in a season if you count all competitions

I find it quite funny that villa don't want to sell their best player, but cough up £18m and you can have him. Now they're reportedly offering him a pay rise, maybe if he worked out what he would be on at Anfield he'd hand in a transfer request without a second thought

he's gonna be left at Villa park, not wanting to play for them losers, he's set his heart on liverpool and o'niell has messed up his one big chance. O'neill is a king size d!ck brain and I hope he gets relegated/fired.

as for Barry, aint his fault so I feel sorry for him.

David Villa 03/12/81
Robbie Keane 08/07/80

Over a year younger, not that I'm trying to prove you wrong or anything like that as you have made an interesting point. Would you rather have Villa or Keane, disregarding superfluous arguments about "proven in the Premiership" ? Would you have Villa for £25m or Keane for £20m? A year may not be a lot, but I think Villa is the better striker to boot and has played alongside Torres which helps.

Interesting point Owzat, I think i would still rather have keane as i think Torres takes to much of his game away to compliment Villa.

Robbie keane can sit behind Torres and compliment and take some of the pressure off of Nando instead of hindering his natural game.

I also know Villa is top notch but Rafa must know this is his final shot and if for any reason he doesn't get it spot on his neck is on the chopping board, that's why i think in the final third of the park he has gone for Keane over Villa.

totally agree with you about villa and torres together . torres has to do all the donkey work for villa as was seen in euros . take villa out as in the final and you see how much torres is better without him .

And with regards barry the sooner we dont get him the better - the guy would be nothing but a step sideways - would rather keep xabi and look to spend any money on a left sidede attacker

Postby Ola Mr Benitez » Tue Jul 29, 2008 2:12 pm

I like Barry and would love him at Liverpool.  I think he is overpriced but that is what you have to pay for a British Player who is the best player at their current club.

I really believe he will play with gerrard better than Alonso does.  i am a big fan of Alonso, his passing ability is probably one of the best in the world, but I think Barry will bring something to our team. My concern is where do you fit all these CM's into the team.  Mascha has to start as does Gerrard and if you are about to pay 17-18 mill for another player it would be very hard to not play him in most games.

Do you play Gerrard on the right?

Do you play Barry on the left?

Do you play 3 at the backand 5 across the middle?

Life and team selection is always hard to predict with Mr Benitez at the healm but it will be even more confusing if Barry comes
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

I cant think what barry would bring to the side above what we already have - his range of passing isnt as good as xabi and his mobility isnt that much better - he has no pace to be able to play on the left mid . only thing is he is english and gerrard likes him ?! is that enough to blow 18 mil on ? i dont think so - esp when we may be able to get someone like silva for that price .
