Rafa said he wants to have someone in before per-season training starts,am i right in saying their back training this thursday. If thats the case a deal for someone is done or very nearly done.Has to be Torres. The gossip linking him with utd is just that, gossip, stuff to fill a sunday paper with. We've got money to play with this year, not a doubt in my mind. All this talk of the americians not given money is rubbish.Their typical americians, want to be the best+to do that they have to spend money+they no that.Wait+see,we'll spend money+spend lots of it

agree. definition of bitter sweet.

The other positive is the fact that we would be buying one of the biggest talents available at the moment. Aswell as being a young, talented and extremely quick spanish international, we will also be buying someone who is very passionate and most importnatly, loyal!

Obviously we havnt bought Torres yet but if he does come, it will be the biggest decision he will ever have to make. He has stated numerous times that he his happy where he is (for some reason) and he will only leave if it is good for himself and good for the club.  I dont know about anyone else but this lads attitude seems to be spot on at such a young age.  If he comes to us, he will be at a stage where he wants to take his football to the next level and compete on the biggest stage of all.

Torres will be welcomed with open arms by me, regardless of the figures being spouted about.  If Man Utd or Arsenal were to pip us to this signing i would be absolutey gutted and all i would be thinking is, damn he is gonna be one hell of a signing for them. I just hope it will be LFC he will be playing for next season.

I don't know, i would be cautious about this type of signing. I  would agree with sabre's views on him, he isn't a english league type of player, needs to be toughen up, I would compare him much like bellamy, but better in the air.

I hope he proves me wrong and does well with us (IF we sign him ofcourse)

Never really seen Torres myself, but there seems to be significant doubt on this and other forums, together with letters to the Echo as to whether Torres is the real deal for >£25m.
There are suggestions that he has potential, but is a major risk for such a large sum as he may not develop.
Perhaps this is why Rafa is not rushing to complete a deal !!

At 25 million i think personally that Torres would be good value. He had a good world cup and showed he can play under pressure against teams who try and rough him up. 25 million seems a lot now, but I am willing to bet it would prove a bargain in the long term.

With the mentality that every player is a risk and that the bigger price tag higher the risk, we will never make a big name signing.
With the prices mentioned this summer every player will be expensive. 17 for bent? 17 for Anderson? 17 for malouda?

No wonder that Torres would cost 25 or tevez for 30 then.
If you want top quality you better pay. To start nitpicking about every potential buy would give us Alves and Simao scenarions all over again.
It's pay up or shut up.

Just heard from a friend of mine in Spain  they said that in  some of the papers there, Arsenal have become serios contenders to buy Torres they are using  Reyes as bait, apparently the paper is saying Reyes is a far more attractive deal than Garcia.  this looks like its going to turn in to a bidding war

Apparently Reyes is desperite to stay in madrid and this is the only option as it looks like Real are not taking the option up of signing him

Yes it's beyond a joke, but Rafa's words are nice, he's quiet and he said we have many targets, so I think anything can happen, including an unexpected mega offer for Villa or Eto'o!

The press cannot be taken too seriously. They just see a little fact, and speculate a lot from that point.

Let's remember:

a) We need a striker, we like Eto'o, thus -speculation part- we're going to use Alonso in the swap. ???

b) There's not movement so far in the market, thus -speculation part- we have no money and Rafa's leaving ??? ???

c) We want Torres, he's expensive, thus -speculation part- we're going to use Garcia, Torres and Cisse as exchange coin.

They do nothing but speculate, and their "Spot on" ratio is smaller than Welsh Wizzards'. The only difference with Welsh Wizzard is that uncle Albert gives all the info for free not in a paper that costs money.

I just believe the rumours I like now and disregard the ones I don't. It doesnt help with which ones come true, but makes me a happier chap I.E.:-

Kaka/Eto'o coming to Liverpool 100% belief, get my camera set up.
Forlan coming to Liverpool - never happen

Atletico Madrid have told Liverpool they want Peter Crouch in part exchange for Fernando Torres. (Daily Star)

What the :censored: ! Ok Torres is probably a far better striker than Crouchy, but if we need to buy a striker it's not for loosing one at the same time.

I am against using Crouch as a makeweight in any deal to get Torres.
