We have been linked with so many players, one minute we think we have 100m to spend (who has ever spent that in one summer? only chelski come close, reality check pls) the next we are apparently potless!
Listen to the actual quotes, what did Hicks say, 'we had a signing that the fans will be really excited about' He would be suitably embarressed should this turn out to be untrue, i doubt a man of his position would be so naieve.
Rafa had a strategic meeting with the owners after his 'outburst', he was happy and didn't resign.
Our 5 most important players have re-signed, surely a sign that the transfers in, and budget are at the very least promising.
The owners are promising us a fucking boss stadium, i guess that means they don't want it empty, so logically they must be delivering a decent budget.
We were told should Rafa want 'snoogy Doogy' (I'll Google him later!) that he'll be backed all the way.
It is only 9 days into the transfer window, and 2 weeks since the season has ended, the vast majority of players sold so far have been out of contract or the very young, the established players will take more than a few days, first to be allowed to speak to them by their current clubs, convince them to come and agree terms.
These are the simple facts and logical inferences from what OUR people have so far said and done, now you can base your posts on the Club, owners, manager and players reactions or what some sports journos who have nothing to write about have to say in their unsourced unquoted articles.
This has nothing to do with the 'in Rafa we trust' brigade, more 'in LFC we trust', it is the club/owners who need to provide the funds for Rafa to spend. IMHO i doubt much more than £35m plus who we sell, and this would be largest transfer budget in our history.
I think the time for mass hysteria is when we don't get any top players, who knows we may get an Eto ( i doubt it) Or Bent (Pls NO), or some real information from the Club, until then the pessimism is unwarranted.
Great post, redtrader.
As a Liverpool fan if I want to know an insight about how are things at the moment in the Liverpool surroundings I have two options from where I sit, read posts of Liverpool fans, and read the press.
Both are read with interest because you seek information about the club you like.
But if I review the press as a source of information and current state of affairs, things like Rafa resigning, Alonso being an exchange coin for Eto'o, in which we had to pay 35 M for Eto'o and Alonso, Ultimatums of players to play the final, Bellamy not having work relationship with Rafa, Countless stories in a golf club, and things like that have been part of the information delivered by this source.
So when I see an article about Forlan now I shrug. I've reviewed the Villarreal surroundings and forums, and nobody talks about Forlan leaving. They're talking about his recent fight with Senna in a training session and how they make peace. I guess tomorrow, some spanish journo will be happy to echo the english rumour and make a story. Then another press article will echo the Spanish story and add a couple of personal touches.
So personally, I preffer the info coming from a post like Redtrader's. That are the quotes coming from the club, and that are the facts.
Manchester has spent 55M. Is that a problem? If they've signed somebody we wanted yes. If not, it's none of our business I think. Since I don't know if we wanted them, I shrug. I also don't care Chelsea having an unimpressive Pizarro neither. I just want Rafa being given what he has been promised and wait to the facts. Then judge. But that's my personal option, let everybody do whatever they want.
