According to a link on Newsnow,Liverpool have tabled a £10mil bid for Alves but it has been turned down as they are holding out for £12mil. If Rafa really wants this guy is it worth losing him over £2mil ?

Rafa will bide his time on this deal. If the player (as he has been quoted) is desperate to come to Anfield then we will get him. Hopefully for £8m but if we have to go to £10m then so be it.

I am convinced Rafa has more money to spend than he is letting on! :)

Things have gone a bit quiet, wonder what is happening, I guess were still haggling over a fee, wonder how long Rafa will wait before he pulls the plug and pursues other targets for the right wing.

I don't really understand why we are breaking the bank for this guy..  Is he the answer to our right mid problem?

I don't think he is, as he is, afterall, first and foremost, a right back.  I know he can play right mid, but wouldn't you prefer an out and out proven right midfielder?
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

From Sky Sports:

Liverpool target Daniel Alves could seal a move to Anfield early next week, according to his agent.

Reds chief Rafa Benitez is a long-term admirer of the Sevilla wide man from his own time in Spain and it would now appear after a prolonged period of negotiation, an accord is close to being struck.

Alves has made no secret of his desire to make the switch to Merseyside but thus far the two clubs have been unable to concur on a fee, with Sevilla clearly reluctant to lose one of their main assets for anything less than a top fee.

It does, though, now look likely that Sevilla will agree to Alves' desire for a move to The Premiership, with a figure of £10 million mooted as the price set.

''The negotiations are very advanced but it is impossible to close the subject this week,'' confirmed Alaves' agent, Jose Rodriguez Baster.

''I expect the solution in a couple of days because the difference in money is very little.''

It is expected that if, and when, Alves puts pen-to-paper on a deal then it will run until 2011.

Basically, Alves gave Seville an ultimatum last week to stop f#cking around because he wants to come here asap. Apparantly the fee is going to start at 15m Euros and go up to 18-20 depending on achievements etc.

It's a lot of money but another excitin, pacy player is on his way. :nod

We have a well structured side that is extremely organised and focused, we have plenty of genuine football players who have beautiful technique and brains, Rafa is now adding some much needed pace to our side, it’s a weapon that you do need and hopefully the likes of Gonzalez, Bellamy and Alves will offer us this new dimension.

You know what?

I could almost pity the opposition defenders.

On second thought:

Nah.  :D

This is off topic and I don't think it merits its own thread but what do you guys think about Clint Dempsey? He is one of the few members of the USMT that I rate. I don't think he is good enough for pool but do you guys think he is worth a punt for a mid/lower table team?

The guy who equalised for the United States?

Great goal.. I saw THAT..

But apart from it, I've never seen him play.

I got this from google though.

"After Dempsey's contract runs out, it is possible he will move to a European league. He has trained with Dutch team Feyenoord Rotterdam and English team Everton F.C. in the past two years."

From sky sports:

Ambitious Liga side Sevilla have increased their defensive options with the capture of right back Andreas Hinkel from Stuttgart.

Sevilla are looking to build on their Uefa Cup success and have followed up the signing of Danish midfielder Christian Poulsen with the capture of Hinkel.

The 24-year-old Germany international has put his name to a four-year deal and will be unveiled on Monday.

"He is an excellent player and will add great quality to our defence," noted Sevilla sporting director Ramon 'Monchi' Rodriguez.

The capture of Hinkel has increased speculation that full back Daniel Alves could be on his way out of Sevilla, with Liverpool in the hunt for the Brazilian.

Getting closer !!
