I stand corrected. Fair play to ya Bob :)
BUT...I'll stick with the line that, just as if I were in the same boat, and two potential employers were offering me a job, one paying £120K a week, and another offering me £80K a week (or whatever the figures were at the time), I think I know which one I'd be taking, even if the lower paying one was as a masseuse for Girls Aloud !! :D

Answered your own question about Owen - he picked the money over the club . Nothing childish about my response at all - how cares how many he scored in pre season they mean feck all - same with past records they mean feck all . Rush jumped at the chance to come back when it was handed to him - we knew months before both Macca and Keegan where leaving - Owen left it to the last minute . Owen has made his bed and he can lie in it - it would be extremely pleasing to watch him and his new club MAN UTD fail horribly this year and watch us win another big trophy .

Don't be fooled. This is what reallly happened:

Michael Owen meets Rafa Benitez with his agent.

MO: "Rafa, pls take me back. You know I was a Liverpool sensation but I feel like a shitty player right now. I need to play for one of the top four teams so I can play for England again."

Rafa: "Michael, we don't have a place for you. We have Torres, Gerrard up front. Also Kuyt, Babel, Voronin and N'gog. You will have to sit on the bench. That means you won't be playing for England. Even then we cannot afford your salary."

MO: "Pls, Rafa take me back. I take back what I said about England. I don't really want to play for England. Screw the world cup. I just want to become a Liverpool star again."

Rafa: "Nahh, don't think so."

MO: "Pls Rafa pls."

Rafa: "Hmmmm...You will bleed for LFC?"

MO: "Yes."

Rafa takes out his notebook and pen and scribbles on it.

Rafa: "Oke. I will tell you. Listen very carefully. You will not play for LFC. I have heard that whiskeynose, or whatever you people call him, is looking for a striker. Maybe, you can go sign for them. Play, for them and whenever you play miss all the chances that you get. You will be helping LFC more like this than you will actually playing for us. But don't make it too obvious. That whiskeynose :censored: is a smart one. Once we win the league I will tell LFC fans I planted you inside the mancs' team. And once again you will become a Liverpool star. How bout that?"

MO: "Sounds good Rafa! I will go sign for them and do just what you instructed."

Rafa: "Okey good! Now run along lad."

MO: "In Rafa I trust!"

:D Like a double agent, our man on the inside. I like that, and having seen him play against Burnley there may be something in it  There's no question that as I said earlier, the "Owenometer" has swung totally against those of us who advocated him coming back. It's early days yet, but without getting too technical about the intricacies of forward play generally and his favoured method of "playing off the shoulder", it's fair to say that in simple terms so far he's playing like a c...

Top finish that

Get a grip the lot who are saying he will be injured , if he goes the whole season without injuries and scores 10 to 15 goals he'd a brilliant signing for them.

I guess with this goal and the fact he isn't injured yet, the pointer on the "Owenometer" has swung back into the "inconclusive" range at the the centre of the semi circle dial. Course the purpose of the dial is to work out whether it was a good move or not Rafa not taking him on a free. To one side of the "inconclusive" section, is the "shrewd move" segment, followed at the extreme by "Fecking blinder Rafa, top man!!!".  The pointer has been hovering in the "shrewd move" section since the start of the season.

On the other side of the "inconclusive" segment, is "sh!t move" which the pointer hasn't visited yet, followed of course by the "Rafa you fecking tw@at why didn't you sign him?" section.

I think after a few days firmly in the "shrewd move" segment, the pointer has nudged into the "inclonclusive". It'll be worth keeping an eye on as the season progresses.

Suppose we win the title and Owen scores 15 goals for them in all competitions, what will the Owenometer show?

The dial doesn't know what to do :D

Also, is Owen's weekend goal particularly relevant considering it came in the dying embers of a game already won? If it's supposed to be a measure of his impact or effect, then surely only moments of worthwhile impact or effect should be counted?

In the first case scenario, we'll all be gutted that the dial was semi circular rather than the full circle. Obviously if it was the full sphere the pointer would just spin round at an ever increasing rate until in true cartoon style, a spring would ping out of the back and smoke would start coming out of it  :D

Also, I think the "relevence" of Owens goal is a factor on this occasion, but it's lack thereof is counterbalanced by a very accomplished finish. Were it both irrelevent and an N'Gog style open goal header which almost missed, there would have been barely a flicker o the Owenometer. As it was the needle flickered briefly before easing back into the "inconclusive" segment, which for some reason is painted green  ???
