Each to there own opinion on this one but personally I feel like im gonna throw up. I don't care if it is a glorious chance for him or not no true Red could sign for them, just couldnt, Ince was far from a Manc legend and his status was nowhere near on a par with Owens while he ws here.

Seriously, like Im gonna throw up

He will probs get injured and then just take his wages off the mancs.. sounds good to me  :D

Seriously though I think we was right to have not made a move for him, I really dont think he's any good.

I'm personally not sure about the argument which goes that he is confirming that he is a total c... by considering going to Man Utd to be honest. His choices it appears to me are Man Utd or Hull, and it's hardly as if he's turning us down as we don't look like we're going anywhere near him. Under the circumstances, although it would be lovely if he passed up the opportunity of playing under Ferguson and opted for the chance to play under Phil Brown instead, I think it's asking a lot.

I'm going to go out on a bit of a limb here and say I think we ARE missing a trick by not taking him on a free. Much has been made of him "fecking Rafa off" twice, but in fairness on the first occasion the manager by all accounts didn't really try that hard to keep him, and as we are seeing now the draw of Madrid is quite magnetic for many players. On the second occasion when he went to Newcastle, I was never myself entirely convinced that Rafa was totally committed to trying to re-sign him. It was only a hunch at the time, but "fecking Parry  " seemed to be heavily involved, as did the current chairman at the time who even stuck his own money up.

Now though, given our circunstances and the situation at hand, I simply cannot believe that if we signed Owen on a three year deal for 50K per week, that he wouldn't at some point score some goals whihc were important enough to at the very least go a large way towards repaying the 7.5 million quid outlay.

I think we've made a mistake by letting him go to Man Utd, and we may well live to regret it.

I think this is the closest to how I feel about this. Owen was the first Liverpool player I loved. I was only a kid and remembr him scroring goals for fun, in particular I remember hat-tricks against Newcastle. I never thought I'd see him in a Manc shirt  :(

hmmm,

F**k, how ironic would to be if the Mwanckers lifted number 19  :no with MO in the side. He'd have an EPL medal before our Stevie, and Carra :no. Jeez, it's not worth thinking about.......

Anyway, I don't think a move for MO to the Mwanckers seems right, it just seems quite bizarre.

From our point of view we had the option of signing Owen on a free, or taking some unproven Carlos Kickaball for an exorbitant fee and hoping he fits in. I'd have been inclined to give Owen a shot myself.

Totally agree with you BM. I wish Rafa could bring him back to LFC. I'm sure with SG and Carra's help etc, he could get a little bit back to what he used to do for us.

:D

That's my feeling too.  Given his options it's hard to blame the lad for heading for Old Trafford, TBPH.  Like Dundalk, I hope he'll be a resounding flop there--not out of spite toward the lad but because that might just hurt the Mancs in a telling way.  Like Mick, I can't help but think that we might have made a shrewd move had we offered Mickey a pay as you play deal as back-up for Torres, since he offers greater game-changing potential than some of our current strikers.  But, Rafa may have another target in mind to bolster our attack and I'll reserve judgment until the end of the transfer window.

how many games has Owen won playing against us? was he in the side that beat us at SJP? Other than that I don't think Newcastle beat us when he was there. Hope it keeps up. Another 4:1 at OT would be even sweeter with him on the pitch :D
