This is most probably what happened... if you look at it from his side it's a right professional decision... He was the best england striker for near a decade and all of a sudden he finds himself in deep :censored: by joining newcastle, labelled a has been. Probably looks at LFC and our players with envy, players like Torres and we're on the rise. And he was going down the drain. But like i said it's the lack of dignity that pisses me off...

For all you know though he might still have a role to play in our quest for the title... he might still help us indirectly... he might just become our Gollum ...  :D

Probably because he WAS desperate mate. I think he lost whatever dignity he had left when he had to produce that 35 page dossier. I think he was in a position where he thought he might have to join Hull, when suddenly he gets the chance to join the league champions.

Don't forget he has to "sell" himself to his new fans now. You have seen how popular the signing of Tevez would have been with some of our fans, how much worse will some of their fans take the signing of an injury prone aging ex Liverpool player.

I don't honestly think players see things in quite the same way as fans. Many Liverpool players are good friends with manc and Everton players, and while they are rivals on the pitch, off it they are just people in the same business, with the same agents, friends and acquaintances.

This is true mate. Any ideas that Carra will try and break him in half are probably wide of the mark. They were mates before and  they'll no doubt be mates now.

One interesting thing to watch out for is any "well I don't think you can blame Michael" interviews from Carragher and Gerrard. I think it was widely reported that they were at least slightly influencial in bringing back Fowler (which I think most would agree was a good move), and I've no doubt they would have had a word with the manager over Owen.

Saint and mick as usual the voices of reason and sanity . I've slept on it and i still think he's a rat and a c@nt for going to the mancs .

As football fans reason and sanity does'nt come into it . We are the loyal ones here , we know what loyalty means and it's a big feck off kick in the teeth for the support we've shown the tw@t over the years .

Anywhere  and i mean anywhere else ,even the blue sh!te .Not the feckin mancs though .

Can't wait for the rat to come back to anfield now and the reception he gets ,whilst he's bench warming .

The photo , the interview on manc tv (via ssn ) all of it cringeworthy . Horrible little sh!t .

Absolutely disappointed. He will get to play more games at Hull than Manure.

He pretends to want to play as many games as he can....but the real truth is he couldn't give a fukk coz' all he is interested in is the money side of it...he knows he is gonna get his big fat pay packet whether he starts for the scum or weather he "bench warms"....so in effect he cant lose...and when he does run out with that scummy shirt on he will be thinking of England not manure all he really cares about is being in that world cup team next june....he always did put country before club......the little tw@t!.

When all said and done it's a brave move by the manager you've got to give him that. If whoever we bring in doesn't hit the ground running, then the comparisons between him and Owen will be obvious. If boy wonder begins to fire at Man Utd, the media will be all over it. There will be lots of sideways glances and raised eyebrows, and some of the dissenting voices may even be coming from inside our own dressing room. It's inconcieveable that Owen won't have said to Carragher, "tell Rafa that if wants me I'll be there in a shot".

As for the medical exam, maybe we could get Deggen to go through it once he gets himself fit again.

Worrying what the media think is absolutely pointless, but if the media effect you're own opinion that much that is you're problem I'm afraid. I wouldn't for one minute believe you're motive to sign Michael Owen would be to primarily keep the media schtum would I?

I don't think we can really speculate neither about dissenting voices from inside the dressing room too much, the "glances" and "raised eyebrows" are probably just you're way of saying 'I wont be happy if Owen turns out to be a boy wonder as opposed to an injury prone mercinary,' to rally some strirring debates up further down the line.

But I suppose laying down you're theories now is a good way to comeback in 12 months to prove everyone wrong incase you're foresight is spot on.

not sure how many had five live on last night (not many lol) but they said Owens agent CONTACTED THE CLUB 6 TIMES OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS to see if we would like him back at the club, each time Rafa turned his back on him (some say he wasd right to do so) but i feel that he is better in our team than in a team that we need to play.

So i guess Owen got tired of waiting for the call from Liverpool to come , tbf though he can't honestly be expected to play for Newcastle in the championship now can he. He's a :censored: and when the call came form Manchester i can guarantee you if any of our players were ever in Micheal's situation they would have have done the exact same thing.

just sounds so wrong  :(
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)

We had dreams and songs to sing

Lets face it Owen has undone any bit of good will he had left in Liverpool by agreeing to this move and furthermore will have one hell of a job being accepted by the Utd faithful. I recall Ince being with us and frankly no one warmed to him and his name on our team sheet always left a bitter taste. Owen clearly does not care about any of that and for pure football reasons you cannot blame him going to Utd but aside from the day to day training and match days the rest of his reputation has been stripped away and thats a hell of thing to give up. Owens legs went a while back and he may tap a couple in fro the bench but wont be a major player in Manchester. You always think you can still do it no matter how you stuggle or how old you are and Owen and Utd will soon realise their connection was not a marriage made i heaven.

“I had just begun to talk to other clubs when, out of the blue, Sir Alex phoned me on Wednesday afternoon, invited me to have breakfast with him the next morning, during which he told me that he wanted to sign me,” Owen said.

“I agreed without a moment’s thought.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I intend to seize it with both hands. I am now looking forward to being a Manchester United player and I am fortunate that I already know so many of the players here.

“I missed pre-season last year and am pleased that I will be starting at Carrington from Day One. I want to thank Sir Alex for the faith he has shown in me and I give him my assurance that I will repay him with my goals and performances.”
