Mutu

The Premiership - General Discussion

Postby 77-1099054247 » Fri Oct 29, 2004 2:18 pm

Mutu's contract was terminated by Chelsea on Friday morning, with the London club stating "any player who takes drugs breaches his contract with the club".

The Romanian international will pay a heavy price for his use of cocaine - while Chelsea will write off the £15.8m they paid Parma for him last season.

Taylor is shocked at Chelsea's decision, saying: "I find it astonishing they are not prepared to discuss the situation with him and set an example, encourage rehabilitation and get him back on track.

"Quite a number of other clubs have been prepared to engage in rehabilitation of the player."

Agree?

not meaning to be a total dumba$$ but why dont we sign him?
We saw a few years ago that the guy is world class, and hed be on a free right?
What would we really have to lose? We sign him, get him on a programme and if anyone can sort him out its Senor Benitez...

... dunno how serious i am, just writing me thoughts here

They`ve treated him disgracefully. They`ve also set a dangerous precedent sacking him for drug taking. Will they sack John Terry and Frank Lampard if they`re caught taking a line of coke?

If he's not good enough for Mourinho he's not good enough for Benitez.

Mourinho isnt the font of all knowledge when it comes to players.A repentant Mutu on a free could be a decent gamble.

Its not that cut and dried guys, I understand that Chelsea have sacked him, but will retain his registration.

So if he does come back to top flight football, and that is a big if under the shadow of a possible two year ban, they can recoup some of the £16m outlay.

wont be two years for recreational, if he does the rehab thing it will mroe than likely be 6 months to a year max
and they keep registration but can only recoup a small amount, so id go for it

Remember what Mutu said before they issued the ban and before he got sacked?

He said something like "I want to go back and play in Italy, but they (Chelsea) will not sack me!"

Well, they have now.

Surly, thats some indication to where he's going after the ban... :p

Drug taking should not be condoned in any shape or form, football is the only sport that seems to want to allow drug takers to stay.

The game needs to clean up its act and there should be regular drug taking tests from the clubs. The industry I work in has mandatory drug testing both on appointment and then random with a zzero tolerance policy for drugs and drink.

If construction can clean their act up then so should football.
Bribery in football helps oil the wheels, the managers take it and the fans pay for it!
