The Premiership - General Discussion

How can they make the CL and prem an even playing field ? shouldnt the winners be rewarded for being the best in that competition , if others cant compete then isnt it up to them to sort themselves out as opposed to authorites giving them a better chance . The richest teams dont always win it - look at chelsea , been trying for years to buy the thing with the player purchases . Have we got as far as we have every year because its easy or because we have tactical out manouvered and out played our opponents ? No one seemed to have a problem in the 90s when AC Milan were dominating and the italians clubs where always there ? 80s when it was the english clubs ? 70s when it was the dutch and german clubs , 60s italians and spanish . These days its the English Clubs that are dominating because they play a better game than there opponents . If they other clubs in europe arent good enough to compete then surely it should be up to them to sort themselves out . Since 00 Madrid and Barce have won it - AC Milan Twice - Liverpool and Man Utd and Porto and Bayern. That seems a very even split to me .

I thought Inter were poor. In the attacking third they were shocking and the Mancs in the end got through, even though I though they were poor last night aswell.

Saw the highlights of BarcaLyon and if Barca play like they did in the first half then nobody will stop them, not even us or the Mancs. They were on a different planet to anything I've seen this season.

I don't think the problem is who wins it so much as it seems now that given the luck of the draw in avoiding each other you could see 3 or 4 English clubs in the semi's every year.

That's total domination mate, and if that continues to happen changes will be made.

By trying to ensure the top sides have the best chance of progressing UEFA have made a rod for their own backs, because at the moment it appears that all the best sides are English (maybe Barca).

The CL should be about playing great teams from around Europe, not about 4 English clubs who we play at least twice a year anyway.

Shouldnt the CL be about the best teams in europe competing against each other and seeing who is best ? if the others arent as good as the prem teams then isnt that there our house to get into order ? These teams spend millions and millions trying to compete in CL and make it their priority over their own league ?

How are the Dutch, the French and the other "smaller" football nations going to be able to compete with the buying power of the prem?

They get a star player and within a year he will be playing for a big club in England or Spain. You complain about how Chelsea bought the league, yet expect teams with comparatively little money at all to compete. FFS most of them get less money a season than championship sides once they lose their CL MONEY.

No mate its not up to their leagues, its up to Sky sports and the other big companies that sponsor the prem. They are the ones supplying all the money ....... them AND THE BANKS. Because for all that the prem is the most successful league and has pots of cash being thrust at them from all angles, THERE ARE ONLY TWO TEAMS IN THE PREM THAT MADE A PROFIT IN THE LAST FINANCIAL YEAR.

the bigger clubs will always snap up the best players - been like that since year dot .

Bang goes all your arguments about the Mancs and Chelsea. I think they will have heard that pop in Moscow  :D

Its no longer a matter of Chelsea have spent more or the mancs have spent for longer.

Which is why my comments where limited to the French, Dutch and other smaller leagues.

Well the bigger clubs are usually the richer clubs as well so they attract the best players . Has always been that way . The mancs and chelsea attracted the best players and were able to pay for them . both come hand in hand . no doubt we could attract the best players - its just paying for them that is the problem .

Police are investigating an allegation of common assault against Jose Mourinho following a Champions League tie.

It has been alleged the Inter Milan manager punched a supporter as he left Old Trafford stadium after his team's defeat by Manchester United.

Police have contacted United to request CCTV footage of the area and have confirmed a complaint has been made.

A spokesman for Manchester United confirmed they are aware of the allegation but made no further comment.
