KK knew exactly how much we were paying for Carroll. It wasnt a secret, he wasnt forced to take him for that price, and he certainly didnt fight against him coming here. KK wanted us to pay that much and it was payed. End of
To try and absolve him from any responsibility is silly and pathetic

Kenny had just taken over as manager - Comolli had pretty already sealed the Suarez deal. Torres then put in a request to leave and Comolli said to Kenny that he could get Carroll and Kenny said yes - it's in his autobiography - the manager wasnt responsible for the fees and wages -that was down to the DoF - Comolli. That's why Comolli was employed and that's why he was fired. Kenny didn't do the negotiating in regards the price and fee just as BR doesn't for his signings - that's down to Ayre. That's the make up within most teams.
The manager picks the players - the money men sort out the details
Blame Kenny for saying yes to Carroll but look towards Comolli for the fee and wages
I dont buy that for a second and the reason being is surely how much money spent on any player will impact funds available for other players or transfers in the next window etc.
Are you seriously suggesting the conversation was just - we can get Carroll and no mention of how much he would cost and the impact on any future business etc ?
If that is the case its a p!ss poor way of working.
benny`s right, i think people are forgetting what happened here.
when carroll and suarez arrived kenny had only been back at the club 3 weeks, he was brought in originally as an interim manager, he only became a realistic proposition for the job on a permanent basis quite late on in the season after we went on a terrific run of results which saw us get to second in the form table over the latter half of the season.
up until about the end of april/early may the owners and comoli stuck to the line that they wanted to go forward with a younger man in charge, even when they agreed to give kenny the job permanently there were rumours that the owners felt that they had given in to fan pressure against their better wishes.
they didnt really want him.
there`s no way that the owners would give a interim manager who had been at the club 3 weeks (and been out of the game for a decade) £50m to spend on who he wanted. especially when he wasnt in their long term plans.
i`ve no doubt kenny was kept in the loop, but i think kenny just went with the flow early on, getting the managers job back at his age was a dream to him and there was no way he was going to rock the boat.
comoli was brought in specifically because he believed in this moneyball philosophy.
as it is looking back comoli didnt do that bad of a job, okay he massively overspent but most of his signings are regulars in the first team even now (enrique, downing, henderson and suarez)
