Andy Carroll signs for West Ham

The Premiership - General Discussion

I'll be very surprised if Andy agrees terms with West Ham. Why should he unless they match or get close to the £80/90k a week he is getting at Liverpool and to be frank I think there is very little chance of that happening. His contract has got another two and a half years to run. He hasn't been treated favourably by Liverpool and won't be inclined to do us any favours as a result.Would he take a £2m a year pay cut if West Ham offer £50k a week? Let's face it nobody is running after Andy with an open cheque book. Only West Ham have made an offer over the last 12 months which is an indicator of his true value and possibly his potential. Andy could run his contract down with loan deals and we could end up in McManaman/Owen situation if we are not very careful. He isn't going to attract massive wages in the future from other clubs due to his now exposed limited ability.

very good point. He's cr@p and isn't worth even £50 a week let alone £50k a week.

So if they can't afford paying him 80k/90k a week, how have they managed to afford him on loan for a season.

They were paying for 100% of his wages, weren't they?

If they weren't we were very stupid to let him go out paying a percentage of his wage to begin with.  :no

I think you're right that they paid all of his wages and I think they also paid one or two million pounds as a loan fee to Liverpool. He has cost them a lot of money for a season and I'm not saying they can't necessarily afford his wages I just don't think they will want to commit to over £80k per week for the long term especially considering his injury record. Hope I'm wrong.

Carroll held talks with Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers in the last 24 hours when he was informed he could move to Upton Park on a permanent transfer.
Instead, the former Newcastle United forward said he remained determined to prove himself at Anfield despite knowing he would be only a squad player.
Liverpool will have to convince Carroll that it is unlikely he will ever establish himself on Merseyside and he would be wiser to move on.
Carroll scored seven goals during his loan spell at West Ham last season, improving as the campaign progressed to earn an England recall.
He has, however, suffered a heel injury since the final game of the season last weekend, ruling him out of the forthcoming friendlies with the Republic of Ireland and Brazil. He will not be fit again until pre-season training in around six weeks.

F**k me this is getting frustrating.

Why can't Stevie G just drive around to his place and tell him to f**k off.

after rodgers brought coutinho and sturridge to the club i came round to the thinking that it`s probably for the best that we sell carroll and re-invest the £15m in the squad.
i did think that we`d need a target man at the club because i reckon we`ll struggle to break down packed defences next season but maybe we could pick one up on the cheap or even bring ngoo back from scotland.
but after seeing some of the forwards we are being linked with i`d rather carroll did stay, i`d rather bring him on with 20 minutes to go than a spanish version of borini, i.e all huff and puff but no weapons in their game to trouble premier league defences.

He wont want to take a big wage cut and frankly who can blame him.

Given his injury record he is now used to playing in patches rather than regularly
and so could play out that role at Liverpool with the wages in his sky rocket and
at a better club than his only option, West Ham.

If he can get his head around not playing every week, and lets face it far better
players than him do that these days, then he has absolutely no need to leave
Liverpool.

by the sounds of it carroll doesnt want to sign permanently for west ham but he is prepared to go back to newcastle.
the problem with that though is that apparently fsg arent keen on dealing with llambias after he made disparaging remarks about the fee we paid for carroll.
to be fair it would be humiliating if we sold him back to newcastle for a knockdown price after their chief exec basically laughed in our faces over the original fee.
to make matters worse newcastle are really playing hardball by pretending not to be interested in re-signing carroll, basically inferring that if they were to take carroll back it would have to be a remarkably good deal for them.
to be fair to them they are only doing what we did to fulham over dempsey, we knew dempsey wanted to sign for us so we drove a hard bargain.
so the ball is basically in fsg`s court now, carroll is prepared to leave but they will have to take a big hit financially and lose a bit of face within football circles.

Who the f.uck sanctioned Carroll's purchase at 35M plus hefty wages?

One of the Worst pieces of business in the history of this club's transfers, and wider football. And now he won't budge, there surely goes part of Rodgers' plans for summer business.

I'm sure many accredit the blame to Comolli. I remember reading (will try and find a link) that Comolli didn't even negotiate on the deal - it was £35M in cash, in bulk (no deferred terms). Crazy!

Comolli sorted the deal and offered the player to Kenny who said yes we would like him  - the fee etc was sorted out by Comolli

I think we may also have to give Newcastle a percentage of any future sale...
