thought he did okay today when he came on, he got a bit lucky with his goal but considering he`d played a grand total of 12 minutes in pre season before today i thought he looked reasonably sharp.

It was a goalkeeping error though, but having said that it was an ok shot and he looked alright but Liverpool were so much better in the first half, even with Suarez being way off his usual standard. Carroll just won't fit into Brendan's style of play so we need to offload him some how.

I dont think in modern football you can have " A style" I think you have to adapt to the opposition and the occasion. If Carroll is happy to sit on the bench until he is needed then show Brendan what he has got then that would be great.

Against the teams like UTD City Chelsea and Everton Carroll will pose a big threat

Maybe they measured Andys top speed when he tripped on the ball and fell to the ground.

I remember Campbell keeping up with Owen a decade or so ago so he did have pace at some stage..but you're right. This would have been measured much more recently. The days in which he started turning like a bus.

campbell was very quick in his younger days, he was a bit like micah richards - quick for a big defender.
football as a game is more about acceleration than top speed, the game tends to revolve around short sprints of 10-20 yards rather than long sprints where players go flat out and reach their top speed.
olympic sprinters spend the first 30-40m of a race in a drive phase and dont reach their maximum speed until about 50m, it`s not very often you see a player running flat out for half the length of the pitch so i wonder how they have measured those players top speeds.
it`s not surprising to see quite a few tall players in that list though, it may take tall players longer to get into their running but once they do hit top speed their stride length eats up the ground, even at olympic level the likes of bolt, lewis and le maitre were often way down at halfway but power through the field once they were in their full stride.

The report means nothing.

Top speed is next to useless in a game of football. Acceleration is is the metric that is key here.

How often is a player going to get the opportunity to make his top speed in a game? Very rarely. Especially when you consider it may take 70/80 metres to achieve it.

I also question that list based on some obvious exceptions. Theirry Henry skinned everyone at his peak, no one will convince me that in a game Sol Campbell was quicker. Gareth Bale not on the list either?

Can’t blame Newcastle, it just business. It was business when they forced one of their best players and fans favourite out because we put in a ridiculous bid. They are just offering around actual market value. If they are willing to give us 15million now with no loan deals involved we should seriously consider accepting and just move on. That fact we were mugs 18 months ago isn’t Newcastle’s problem. We’re going to make a big loss on him one way or another.
