It's the kind of signing Ferguson would do, we'd all laugh our balls off at the cost, and a few months later the lad would be banging the goals in and steering them to another big trophie. Not a fanciful name, but a piece of a cog that fits into a well refined machine. It's what's made them so successful IMO. I've always been an advocate of it being about the 'right' player, rather than the 'big' player. That's the sense of what I get of what Dalglish is doing with us now. He's not going exotic; he's going with what will work for the benefit of the team and I'm at ease with it because I trust him. In a month or so, maybe less, we could all be looking back at the one man superstar strike force at the tip of our spear with pale comparison to what we've just landed and we'll never look back

couldnt agree more ER. This is bloody exciting. We want the right 'team', with the 'right' players. I can't wait til the summer and kick off a new season, til then we can get winning some games and give Carroll and Suarez playing time together.

The summer is going to be exciting for us. Might even have two out and out wingers on either side!!  :D

When you look back 12 months the negative football the depressing ownership issue, those were really dark days. But my friends the good times are just around the corner. IT'S KARMA:D

You have to feel something for the Newcastle fans losing a local hero like Carroll and their best player really. I mean we lost Torres but its nothing compared to that losing a home grown talent so early on.Like us losing Fowler after a year. We at least have Carroll as an exciting replacement and a new frontline but they are left with nothing at all.

Mixed feelings about the Carroll signing.

Looks an absolute handful on his day and seems quite consistent.  I was at St James' for the Chelsea game not so long ago and they honestly couldn't handle him, he won everything in the air and any 50-50 going that day.  Looks a real threat in the air and as we found out this season, he can play on the deck too and score some tidy goals.... and he's only 22.

On the down side he has a Championship player last season and has only half a season of being a top flight first teamer.  That's a slight concern for me.  The other is his discipline.  It's not a well kept secret in Newcastle that he broke Steven Taylor's jaw in a training ground bust up and he's been in court twice over the last year or so for assault, once on his girlfriend after she allegedly caught him shagging someone else.

He's young though and everyone makes mistakes, and to be honest you never really know the truth or the circumstances surrounding these events.  Living in Newcastle I've seen Andy Carroll out in the pub with his mates before and all he did was keep himself to himself, wasn't acting Billy big balls at all.  I honestly think that getting out of the goldfish bowl that is Newcastle, and away from any bad influences he has there, will be the best thing he's ever done for his career.

On paper the partnership with Suarez looks promising, can't wait to see what it's like...

It reminds me of Toshack/Keegan in a way (big man/little man). As you say the potential in that partnership is frightening as they should compliment each other. If you compare that to the chavs, Drogba and Torres are both great individuals but that's not a partnership.

All in all, we've come out of the deal really well imo. Carroll and Suarez at 22 and 24 years old respectively could lead our attack for the next 5 years at least.

Exactly, It is the kind of signing he would make, that is why Kenny and Ferguson are cut from the same cloth except Kenny is shrewder and a nice man.

and his nose is not so purple :D

Agreed.

If you look at Torres he's never really looked as good in a front two.  Villa always outshines him for Spain and to be honest he looks more effective when played up top on his own with support coming from deep.  That's why playing with Gerrard suited him so well.

I'll be surprised if Drogba/Torres works as a pair.  More likely Torres will eventually be Drogba's replacement.  Chelsea need a younger squad and I reckon Drogba could be sold in the summer.

Classy interview.  I know he's probably a bit disappointed but I'm glad he's sounding so optimistic.

'How does it feel to be Liverpools new # 9?'

Andy Carroll -

On a serious note I think Caroll will do a great job for LFC. For a change the ball will stick upfront 9 times out of 10 and that can only be good for the support players round about him - Suarez, Gerrard, Meireles, Kuyt and Co.

Hope Suarez gives Torres a good kick on sunday and for not having the balls to want to play up front with him at Liverpool.
