This club was forged on its integrity...its philosophy resonating with the man on the terraces...pride and passion - its CREDIBILITY and its supporters attesting to and appreciating those strengths and qualities at each and every opportunity. Even in times of tragedy (more so) Or dare i say....in times of mediocrity. Only by sticking to those principles through thick and thin will the club rise again upon solid ground. We are talking about the very foundations here - the bedrock of Shanks' legacy is at stake the minute we change tack and allow ourselves to be dragged down to depths i would never dream of seeing us plumb, in an attempt to merely 'save face' Even for ONE game...however significant the result. F*ck the media. And f*ck the mancs. Get our own house in order and we will be straight back at them.
So i cannot subscribe to the notion that i would feel 'better' by preventing an opponent (whoever that might be btw) from usurping a 'record haul' for the sake of vanity by way of deliberately turning in an under par effort. Ultimately at the (i believe) costly expense of being labelled as 'bottlers' or of not having 'given your all' for the cause. And only Liverpool's cause - the damage to the deserved reputation the club has built over time would be irrevocable.
The emotional sentiment involved i can appreciate - the thought of actually expecting that our players (and our manager) despite disparaging concensus of his ethos, would go out and ensure a rival didn't win above all efforts of their own to win a match, is both to the detrimental disrespect of the majority of our supporters (It might be 20 odd against 17 or so in the poll on here...) but although you may find almost all Liverpool fans are dreading the prospect - there can be few who would realistically 'want' to see any Liverpool team stoop to that low a standard with full complicitly.
Or have things really got to that stage now? What a travesty in the name of this great club if so...

1/ The team are not going to throw the game, the manager will pick a strong side and they will go out and play to win. I don't think it's even up for debate.
2/ Once again, I can't believe the levels of sanctimony and 'holier than thou' responses in here.

That's what i have been trying to say for a few pages now Scott.
We all know that they wont throw the game but being asked for an answer regarding the possible outcome of the game is totally different.
I have never gone into a game wanting a defeat, but i will not enjoy our game at all Sunday, it wont be possible for me.
Win and play well and i will obviously be happy.
But it will be a proper hollow feeling.
If some dont care about united overtaking us then fair enough, for me it will be sickening.

Sod it. it's gone. If i was Rafa I would do a "mick Mcarthy" and play the youth team v chelsea, just to spite fergie.
rafa must know he is getting the sack in two games time anyhow and he should just gamble.if he has secretly signed a contact with Juventus then take it. If i was the chief executive i would do the deeds rightfully myself.
No trophies in 5 seasons. not good enough.
enough is enough surely.
