If we ever did sell Torres i would buy two strikers and play two upfront.

Milito from Inter Milan and Higuain from Real Madrid.

I would be amazed if Madrid let Higuain go cheaply if at all - he is one of the main reasons they are challenging for the league and the guy keeping 30mil pound Benzema out of the side .

I don't know is the short answer. In the team I advocated us having as our strongest next season, Torres was in it as I think he will stay. If, on the other hand there are truth in the rumours of him getting restless, I'd take the cash now and then decide on a  replacement (all of which I said in the original post). Once you've got the 80 million quid or whatever it is in for him, I'd have a look around for a replacement.

I only really can offer up opinions on English football, and the best strikers or ones you might want would be unavailable for any money. Rooney and Van Persie would both be unbuyable (someone will say I'm "advocating" buying Rooney now) and are the best two IMHO. Drogba isn't an option either, so you'd cast your net wider.

Nicholas Anelka is a good player and probably temptable for a lot, while I also think Gabriel Agbonlahor will become a much better player than he is now. Darren Bent while being an excellent option for us LAST Summer would be too expensive now, and in any case isn't a credible replacement for Torres (although I would definately take him as an alternative). I like your man Doyle although he's under top class, while no doubt Berbatov could be stolen for a fraction of the fee Man Utd paid (although probably not by us in fairness). All in all out of that lot, if Torres wee to leave (AND I DON'T THINK HE WILL, NOR DO I WANT HIM TO) my preference would be in order Abonlahor, Bent then Berbatov. That said THE LIKELYHOOD IS THAT WE'D BE BETTER OFF TRYING TO GET A DAVID VILLA OR SOMEBODY FROM ABROAD.

Anyway, there it is. As I say, I'd play a genuine five in midfield and Steven Ireland would be the buy which will make a huge difference to us.

Ok how much do you think it would cost us to get both Johnson and Ireland and where does the money come for that ?

p.s. Villa is 30 now or close to 30 and would prob cost around 30odd million - a lot of money for someone his age .

Can understand Bent and would agree he would be good back up - same with Doyle . Agbonlahor is a good option but i dont think Berbatov can work up front on his own or get enough goals - even when he did play every game up front for Spurs he got no more than Kuyt does in a season - he just looks better doing it .

I already answered these points in the original post. I think Ireland and Johnson would cost us around 10 million NET once we'd sold Aquilani.

If we sold Torres for 80 million, we have to buy a replacement and I've already said I know little about foreign football other than who is a decent manager in Italy. I simply threw David Villa in there before the numpty crew accused me of saying Gabriel Abonlahor is better than Torres/Rooney would come to Liverpool/we must only buy a replacement from England/I think we should sell Torres.

I'm not necessarily saying we should buy David Villa, I've hardly seen him play. Some nutters on here claim that if we don't, then any position in the top fourteen next season is as much as we can hope for, but other than that I know little about him.

10 million pound for ireland and Johnson if the current over inflated prices - especially for Home grown players ? Ireland i expect hims elf would go for the same 15mil ish that was banded around last summer when the mancs and chelsea and arsenal were sniffing at him and johnson has been compared to both turner and hangeland who were priced at 7 mil ish for turner and 10 mil for Hangeland . You wont get either players cheap and defiantly not 10 mil for both .

If i have got that wrong and you mean 10 mill on top of what Aquilani goes for then where does the ten million come from ? we are skint Mick . There prob wont be ten pence to buy players  this summer - only players bought will be from money generated from player sales and then maybe not even all off it .

And Villa is an outstanding striker and has been for many years - a goal machine . We nearly got in back in 2003 i think it was for just 6 million.

Id buy 2 other established strikers. Maybe Edin Dzeko (30Mil) and Pavel Pogrebnyak or Lucas Podolski. Either of those should be available for around 20Mil each. Stevan Jovetic even....

I'm not saying sell him either but if he does want to go then.....

Supposed to :censored: hot. I would imagine there would be a few clubs after him. Unless we end up getting a sugar daddy owner we really should be looking to wrap up the majority of our transfer business before the world cup. Otherwise the prices could inflate to silly levels.

1st game of the season??

European Super Cup Final! But wait there's been a mangerial merry-go-round. Mourinho's in the newly cash rich Liverpool dug-out. Starting with Eto'o and Torres up front. Benitez is in Inter's dug-out, where he starts with Milito and Kuyt.

Do you think it will happen? :p

you lot are absolutely crazy. Not matter which players rafa brings in he WILL  NOT  change his style of play and lucas and kuyt will start most games. Look at the chances hes had to turn things around this season with players has he?

I've never heard any hype over him, and I have no idea if he's any good. I'm sorry to say I've never actually heard of the bloke. He does have one of those names though which make you think he's got a stepover or two in his locker.

Just in case we do sign him, I'll go early and say he's unsuited to English football and too lightwieght. I might be wrong of course, but nine times out of ten you get em right if you go that way :eyebrow.
