This could go in the joke thread too so I'll post it there.

What's the difference between the Icelandic Volcano and Cheryl Cole?

The Volcano is still blowing Ash

I'm hearing it may have a bearing on UEFA's decision to allow the European games to go ahead next week
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Yeah it could potentially throw the whole schedule off including the final off track. I know it's mother nature but seriously if we can put a man on the moon and a little wheelie robot on mars then surely we can build plane engines that don't go to :censored: when they come into contact with the volcano ash?

Those of us old od us to remember Mount St Helens volcano  in the US... a BA 747 lost all 4 engines at 40,0000ft, went into a nose dive, the pilots lost all control then at @10,000ft engine No 1 regained, then 2, 3 and 4 and she miraculously survived a near freefall.

Now then....... tell me whythey should let planes fly today when THEY PROVED ash had been the cause.

HISTORY was not invented TODAY.

HISTORY was not invented TODAY.

Two reasons-

1) the eruption in Iceland was a fraction of the power of Mount St. Helens eruption back then. Far less quantities and concentrations.

2) recent test flights by BA and other European carriers have gone to prove the theory that materials (and specifically treatment processes of the metals used in engines) used are more resilient to the potential damage of volcanic ash and the like.

On the 2nd point a NATO fighter jet was also sent for a test flight and returned with engine damage.

@all

Just heard on fivelive that the volcano activity has worsened in the last few hours and another ash cloud is forming...

Hopefully if the weather returns to normal in Scotland (ie :censored:) then it should help to bring it down quicker.
