59 players which are not bought as filler or first team. Sure some turned out duds, but that's normal for any manager anywhere in any league. Benitez has mostly had to adopt a buy to sell, sell to buy policy. His net spend has been zero in two years since the Yanks gained complete control over this club, and next season he's going to have to sell more player to raise funds? At Liverpool FC, one of the biggest clubs in the world supposedly? Seriously?

Our problems began in the summer when we pushed United to the brink (and should have won it if not for Torres being injured for half the season) within 4 points. It was then the Yanks had the opportunity to capitalize by either investing by strengthening the squad where it was needed by giving the manager the funds to go and get a David Villa, Silva or players of that elk, players which we desperately needed to kick on, but they failed us and the manager. Then was the time to strengthen us, then find a viable buyer on the premise that we were on the verge of pushing for major honours in the coming season to potential buyers by making us look like a decent prospect to buy into due to the overall quality of the squad, which could have been challenging on all competitions if the quality was there. They didn't. Instead they gave the manager f*ck all, forcing Rafa to sell Xabi to Madrid, money which could have been used to strengthen in other areas had they put their hand in their pockets. Most other top sides with smart owners that own a team on the verge, or having just become champions don't sit back while the squad becomes depleted and others around them strengthen. Unfortunately we have owners who do not have a f*cking clue. We either get rid of these parasites or we settle for hoping to challenge for the league once, maybe, in the foreseeable future while they are here.

Rafa could have sprent almost uptp 36mil last summer, he spent 20mil on a player that was unfit and he took so much time sorting out another play the price shot up to 22mil, yes the owners shoud have given him the other money

We didn't blow anything on Aquilani or Johnson. Keane, maybe. But then again, he wasn't prepared to sit on the bench when Fernando was fit, was he? We needed a right back. That was an absolute paramount. Why people even dabate this is staggering. We also needed to replace Alonso, and quick. He gave us no option by handing in his request, and the money recouped from him wasn't even used in it's entirity anyway. Somewhere, someone omited the fact that 15 million or thereabouts of that dealgot lost down the back of the sofa because it sure as f*ck wasn't all given to the manager to find a decent back up striker. By the way, how do you actually find a viable decent back-up to Torres? When he's fit, Rafa plays a system where he's up front on his own. To buy a quality back up that will play up top with him and compliment him, then you need a top, top quality player like Villa or Eto'o. How much are they going to cost us? So he goes for a cheap alternative like (really struggling to think of a cheap alternative here that could fill the Spaniards boots and be happy on the bench when he isn't playing). Jones? He'd be decent for us, I reckon. Would still probably cost us about 12 million, though. And should he not score more than 20 goals a season, he'll have already been called a flop and a massive waste of money...again. F*ck Benitez for finding a promising talent in Torres and turning him into the best striker on the planet.

Keane wasn't prepared to sit on the bench... didn't he maybe have an inkling there would be bench time?

and Aquilani and Johnson aren't a waste of money, but maybe we should have sorted out our attacking options first?

Just money being spent poorly, and like we all know, we aint got much of it

Yes, Lakes...normally when a player hands in their request (for whatever reason is another debate) the manager has no choice to sell. Xabi cost us 10 million at the time, and how many of you even knew who he was before he came to us? He wasn't even renowned as a world class talent until Benitez got him and to a bigger club and turned him into one. 10 million for him was peanuts, same with Torres, same with Reina, Mascherano...I could go on. Fact is, Benitez normally buys players and maximizes their value in the transfere market. He made 300% profit on Alonso, and but for the parasites that own us, he could have found another Torres, or another Alonso for that 30 million. Possibly even two players. Two quality players. Our problems began in the summer, and as far as I'm concerned, the buck stops with the Yanks.

No one here knows what goes on behind the scenes, Daws. Sure it's easy for us all to sit and say "oh, but he's been given X amount and spunked it on that player, when he should have been going for this player instead." Fact is, we don't know if Benitez was trying to get certain players but couldn't because he didn't have the backing required.

But the truth is Rafa would have sold Xabi the previous season for £14million BUT FOR PARRY PULLING THE PLUG.

Or he could have found us anotherKeane/Dossena/Babel/Morientes

Emerald, ok, but even you have got to admit that Rafa has made some.. bizarre chocies? and as for money, we have had more than others, we sell too often (Bellamy, Cisse, Crouch, Anelka, Keane etc etc) and our turnover is too much. We are one dimensional. We have no backup. People know how to play against us. He wont make changes til 60 minutes... all this has to show that the mans gotta go

Lets get another fella in , im not ar,sed anymore with the Rafa situation, it has always been second on my priorty list anyway , My first priority is getting rid of the Yanks , So youlll hear no more from me on Rafa ,

Seriously Nan how can they persist in their perpetual loathing of Rafa ,if they have to stop and face facts ,why let a minor thing like the incontrovertible truth get in the way of a Benitez hate fest

In fairness to Benitez, once he's made an error in buying a player, he's shipped them out quickly and with none to minimal loss for what he paid, or in most cases at a profit. It's something he gets no credit for whatsoever. It would be more damaging had we a manager who bought players at a premium, and sold them at a loss (Houllier was guilty of this and so was Evans and you know about Souness). The football today is not the same as the football of 20 years ago, S@int. You should know this. Today it's a money driven, insidious dog-eat-dog business. It's corporates and f*ckers like Parry, business men with ties and suits, accountants and such. Today it's just not enough to be a good football manager. You either need money, and if you don't, then you need to be good at balancing the books. If you go about spunking cash and not being able to keep up at least, then you're f*cked. Just look at Portsmouth. They went bust because they'd owners that hadn't a clue. IMO, it's the main reason Rafa has not been sacked. It's because he's good at balancing the books.

Danny Murphy has accused Rafa Benitez of throwing up a smokescreen over Liverpool's spending in the transfer market.

The Fulham captain, 32, spent seven successful seasons at Anfield and was a key part of the side that won a famous 'Treble' in 2001.

He was shown the door by Benitez soon after the Spaniard's arrival and six years later is on course to face his old club in the Europa League final.

Benitez has spent £229million on players and while Chelsea and Manchester City have spent more, Murphy believes it should have been enough.

He explained: "They've certainly had enough money in summers gone by and have had some good players. You can analyse it all you like but the expectation is to be successful - and that's not happened.

"I'm as disappointed as anybody at the way they are doing at the moment. I want to see them do well but they've been struggling.

"The simple fact is that the last few years have not been up to the standards Liverpool expect - and Rafa set those himself in his first year by winning the Champions League.

"I think the turnaround of players has been a little bit too high.

"They have had some good players there like Craig Bellamy, Peter Crouch and Robbie Keane.

"Then, this year, Fernando Torres was injured and they are struggling for a striker. They have had players who were capable of filling in there."

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

I really don't understand this love in for Benitez. He's JUST a manager, that's all. He's not even that good a manger. Some people on here go on about him as if he invented LFC or something. It's amazing.
