Owen jumped the gun, he didn't believe in Liverpool's ability as a club so he left for Real Madrid hoping that he would hold the Champions League trophy.

i think owen would be revelling in the new system aswell also, and i also agree that it is his loss. if he's watching any of our games lately he's gonna be gutted, knowing that we're playing the way he wanted us too, just after he's gone.

i must add though, that owen would be having a field day due to the fact that benitez would be making him get involved in team play a lot more. he seemed to have given up on this for liverpool, restricting himself to the last 3rd only, and waitng for balls rather tahn getting involved. he's doing it for england now aswell.

There was a report on Madrid today in the Sunday Times and it looks like Owen is already having some small second thoughts about the move (not that he'd admit it).

Both he and Beckham admit they are bewildered at the chaos going on in that club.

I agree. How do you expect a player who for the most of his career at a club has been injured and has been benched to develop their talent? You can't, it makes no sense. He still needs more games to play, he hasn't had a full-season start yet while Fowler and Owen both had season starts to develop their talent.

Why hasn't he had a full season?

You want me to tell you why?

The answers simple. He's not good enough.

Fowler and Owen were that good you dare not leave them out. Owen was that good at 20/21 that he was first choice in a squad which had Litmanen, Fowler and an onform Heskey. Fowler was that good that he replaced Rush and was ahead of Collymore. Its always the way.

Baros is a good player and will improve. For me though he'll never be any better than a first choice striker at a top 7 or 6 club. He's a similar level of ability as Murphy, maybe SLIGHTLY better. I don't think he'll improve much more.

Time will tell Stu. I think Rafa will get more out of Baros than you think. If he doesn't, the lad still has a decent enough rep from his Euro performances for us to get a good price on him should the gaffa decide he wants a different type of player.

Couldn't had said it better myself. Houllier was a fan of Owen, whatever Owen wanted he got. He wanted Heskey rather than Baros because Heskey could never be better than him, while if Baros constantly had a good game every time he started he would had the pontential of being an equal to him or even better, in my opinion

Have to disagree, I've always thought Owen the consumate professional footballer. To say he didn't want to play with another striker because they might steal his thunder or prove to be a better player is crazy. If that is the case then why the hell has Owen gone to Madrid to play with 3 strikers who are all arguably as good or better than he is?

yes thats why he scored 24 goals in the league thats the hardest to score (maybe italy) and it was those goals that won valencia the league.
