FABIO AURELIO - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Ola Mr Benitez » Mon Mar 23, 2009 1:58 pm

I have always liked Aurelio.  He seemed to get a lot of stick because of his injuries, but in all honesty injuries cannot be helped.

What he has always had is a great touch and has always looked comfortable on the ball.  Other wise known as the basics. His confidence is up, he's had one of his best runs without injury since joining and he is starting to look like a real classy player.
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

As with most of our LBs for the past decade or so, my main concern with Aurelio is defensively. Maybe we can do a swap deal of Dossena and Degen for Heinze, that will then leave us the problem of who to leave out.
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

He has been fantastic lately and ran Alonso a close second for man of the match, he is turning into a very good left back

tell you what mate I thought the 1st leg at Anfield was his worst game for Liverpool but tonight he was outstanding, linking superbly with Benny and, er Lucas in all those pretty passing triangles that Manc fans used to w@nk over when Scholes Beckham and Neville used to did it, and on top of that his delivery from set pieces is really getting back to the level of his Valencia days

Just goes to show that he can deliver in the big games. Just had a horrible game in the 1st leg and the lack of any link up play on the left side, cost us dear, especially with Stevie marked out of the game.

He's got talent and it is beginning to finally surface on a more consistent basis in this league.

I'm sorry I can't agree yes he had a great game going forward linking up play but surely thats secondary to his first responsibilty which is to defend.
The two most crucial goals in last nights game came from the Chelsea right our left.
Anelka's cross for their first goal let them back into the game and Fat frank in the final minute finished the game of finally.
I know I will get slated and as I said I'm not faulting his offensive performance but stopping crosses and closing down is one of the fundemental requirements of a left back, in the respect Fabio didn't do his job last night so saying he derserved MOTM is to ignor the fact that although he did the pretty stuff well last night he never completed the job he was sent onto the pitch to do.

we set up funny for the second away leg so cant really say its entirely his fault getting caught out of position a couple of times... i'd understand where the confusion comes from though...

Gotta agree with you there - you could see he was asked to push up a lot - same with arbeloa so they were left exposed a lot but that was the risk to take i guess.

yep... him waay more than Arbeloa... at times it looked like a 3 man backline with Arby down the right and Carra down the left... especially the second half... but anyways.... good display..sheme we'r out.. lets just goi out and win the remaining games and see how things go.. Aurelio doesnt have much to prove imo .. hes good enough and we shouldnt have brought in dosser in the first place but anyways... leftback slot is sorted as far as im concerned

The only problem is mate is his injury plagued past - we will never get a full season injury free out of him .

Yeah now but at begining of the season he was nowhere near ready and dossena has become useful over the last month or so with his attacking ability so i think he may well get another season .
