Is liverpool relevant - How should we be managed ?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Live4pool » Sat Sep 25, 2004 9:57 am

Many Clubs have gone under while other received new lease of life. EPL clubs generally fared better than others.
With all these talks of money injection for Pool, who should we emulate ? Arsenal, Manure, Chelsea or RM ?
Forget the Italians unless the British political leaders have the spare cash and the interest to own a EPL club.

What say you ?

Sorry Live4pool as much as we are currently behind those British sides its them who are trying to emualte us. Its why Robbie always gives the mancs the 4 fingered salute. We will do it our way the Liverpool way. As for real Madrid I certainly do not want my club run like theirs. There is nothing wrong in the running of our club, our last manager failed and we cant buy any player that we want thats all the issue really is about.

Today in the news jose has said everyone hates chelsea and they are the most hated club in the prem. They are through there money grabbing superstars and the way they conform to dodgey dealings, but I hate manure more :glare:
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Right there cisse, Im going to Hell due to my hatred of them but I cant help it. Its such a strong emotion, I cant even talk football with their fans, they often know nothing. However I have a massive blown up picture of Robbie (albeit at Manchester City ) giving that salute to remind me just to laugh it off and when I cant sleep at night I think about Fergie and how he wont have time to match our triumphs.

Yes, Mynameisred and Cisse, I am also a diehard fan of the REDs despite the past decade in the witherness.

My point is that there is no loss in taking a leaf off the experience and mistakes of others, rivals included.

My personal observation of the business administration (note: not the football management) :

Chelsea - sole proprietorship - no accountability except to the moods of Mr Chelski

Manure - public listed - good governance requires every intentions to be declared. Lesser element of surprise. Fortunately, they have loads of money to go through with their intentions.

Real Madrid - divine intervention of the City of Madrid kept it alive all these years. The Club Presidency election allows player power to get better of the management hungry for popular votes.

Arsenal - Similar to Liverpool's.

Let's face it, at this moment we don't have the financial clouts of these teams to realised our footballing ambition.

I think our current model is similar to the Gunners, We should continue in this vain but do it better like Arsenal. Let every businessman  regardless of race, creed or beliefs (but with loads of money) partake in the Liverpool dream - but just leave the management of football team to the expert.

live4pool I agree, I think overall we have been run very well despite the lack of a league title.  Lets face it, we've had a couple of dissapointing managerial runs, we haven't won a major competion (UEFA Cup aside but even thats not exactly a major earner) and yet we can still fork out £32 million pounds as soon as we get a new gaffer as well as pay for the construction of a new stadium (although admitadly that is having some problems).  We've been run quite well all-in-all.  I'd rather see us run like Man U then Chelsea if it ever changed, and I'm not a big fan of Man U's policy of marketting themselves as 'Manchester United' rather than as a football club.

i think we have the money to buy who we want, but we spend it better (well, not who we buy, but what we pay, usually)
Take chelsea as example. hen they buy players the team will add 10 mill or so to the price, knowing that chelsea can easily pay it. If they had tried to go for Alonso they would have paid 20 million easy.
We spend our fair share of money and all we can do is work wih the team we have. We are doing the things right though so theres no need to change

Yes Dawson, Liverpool must be financially prudent in managing its funds.

In Wenger, Gunners are blessed with an astute businessman cum football coach. Mr GH unfortunately did not possess either.
Wenger demonstrates more class than Sir Alex in this respect.
What does it take to spend obscene millions for  Rio,VanHorsie, that baldie from Lazio and Shrek in hope of instant success?

Not many came out of the youth scheme, but Wenger was a fantastic cradle snatcher - Anelka, Henry and the current brood of youngsters. He was able to transform Viera and Pires into top draws. Wenger is really Mr Arsenal.

No need to remind all about GH's acquisition.

Benitez is very cautions, aside from the 10mil for Alsono. He resisted spending unduly and could have bought instant success with Ayala and the stars in Valencia. I am waiting in bated breath in what he will come up with next

Agree with you there apart from the bit about Ayala, sure he had a great season last year, a spectacular season even but to me he's always seem dreadfully overated, he was a huge flop with Napoli and Milan in Serie A and the Serie A.  And he's getting on a bit.

Agree with the rest of what you said though
