Not looking good is it?

My main worry is that Everton win their game in hand they are only 3 points behind us Image

Fourth place is still there for the taking IMO. Looking at the remaining fixtures

Liverpool

Home: Sunderland
Away: Birmingham
Home: Fulham
Home: West Ham
Away:Burnley
Home: Chelsea
Away: Hull

If Rafa abandones his two holding midfielder tactic (which he did against Portsmouth due to desperation) we can get anywhere between 18-21 points out of these fixtures, best case scenario. Now let's look at the teams chasing the fourth spot as well.

Spurs

Home:Portsmouth
Away: Sunderland
Home: Arsenal
Home: Chelsea
Away: Man.Utd
Home:Bolton
Away: Man. City
Away: Burnley

Aside from next week's contest against the cellar dwellers, they have a tough three game stretch against the top 3 who will all be chasing for the title and come out with guns ablazing. I can see them easily losing 3-4 matches still.

Manchester City

Home: Everton
Home:Wigan
Away:Burnley
Home:Birmingham
Home: Man.Utd
Away: Arsenal
Home: Aston Villa
Home: Tottenham
Away: West Ham

We need help here from the guys across the street but once again a tough three games in the middle. Can see city dropping at least one if not two and possibly three with some luck.

Aston Villa
Home: Sunderland
Away: Chelsea
Away: Bolton
Home: Everton
Away: Portmouths
Away: Hull
Home: Birmingham
Away: Manchester City
Home: Blackburn

Villa is as inconsistent as we are so anywhere between 1 to 3 losses here.

The good news is that Villa, City and Spurs still play one or the another still so someone is bound take points from each other.

But if we stand any chance at all, Rafa is going to have to throw caution to the wind and start Aquaman and Babel every game because the Lucas/Masch partnership is surely not needed going against the likes of Sunderland, B.irmingham and Hull.

The odd thing is that if you'd never seen us before, we look like a really well drilled team (apart from when we defend set-pieces when we are shambolic). We hunt in packs, close down well, shut spaces, defend in banks of four etc etc like a really efficient unit. We don't play a lot of offside but we hold the line really well and are difficult to play well against. If Rafa had taken over two months ago, you'd say he was a magician for having us so well organised and for making a bunch of players of which far too many are average into a competitive team.

The unfortunate thing is of course that Rafa didn't take over a couple of months back, he took over six seasoons ago. The average players are his buys, often better players have been moved on to make space for them. Ouur paucity of imagination going forward is a travesty, the blame for which lies firmly at the managers door, and the best Houllier teams would IMHO have eaten this lot for breakfast in a match up.

On the question of fourth, despite everything I think we might still make it. The pressure on the others around us will start to have an effect onthem before long, and as long as our fair play cup thing exploits on a Thursday night don't impact too heavily on us for the weekend, I think we might still just make it.

How good will Crouch and Bellamy feel if they finish above us?
Both of them asked to leave?
The best thing they could have done.
Well in Rafa

Finishing 4th is close to impossible now. I don't think we'll win all our remaining games and while I see some of our rivals dropping points, I think Man City have enough in the can to go on a run and clinch it.

Put it this way, if I was a betting man I wouldn't exactly be rushing out to back us at this stage.

we're not gonna finish fourth now, i've kept faith in rafa for long enough i reckon, its time to go now, europe/fa cups are no good to us 5 and 6 years ago

he looks like he's lost the plot anyhow, theres 40000 people at the anfield every other week that can see the likes of lucas cant cut it at this level but he insists on playing him. If i didnt know any better i'd say rafa was just going against the grain to be stubborn, i'd like to think lfc means more to him than that

the squad looks like it needs a big shake up, the whole thing looks like its gone stale, reminds me of houlliers last season, and on top of everything else rafas wrecking his own reputation by dragging on like this
You can't just walk in here with a big banana and expect everything to be peaches...

All we have to do is win all the games... easy :D.No seriosly, we have some easy games coming up, and we should take a full advantage out of that.Apart of the Chelsea game, we have to win all of the others, and maybu we'll have a chance.

It actually is that easy. The quality of players that we have sitting on the sidelines (Yossi, Babel, Aqualani, even Maxi) surely trumps whatever quality Sunderland, Hull or Birmingham or Burnley can put out there.

The problem is will the man in charge put those guys out there to prove it?

If that happens, this team will be radically different at the start of next season whether it be management or players.

Heck. does Rafa even want to stay if he can't manage European games? That's his supposed bread and butter.

Well you know mate it's football and it's not that easy, especialy not that easy for the team who lost 2 - 0 from Porsmouth. But, we do have the easiest games and not taking advantage of this will show how much we really suck. But you know, hope dies last... it still dies though.
