Santa cruz anyone?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

As we need a striker this summer, and the likes of Villa is way out of our financial league, how about making a bid for Santa Cruz?  He has spent most of the season on the bench at Man City so will likely be happy to move on, and is a proven goalscorer who can lead the line well and would be a good backup for Torres, who spends a lot of the time injured so Santa Cruz would get more than his share of starts.  And we could probably get him for around £8m since he has hardly set the world alight at City and was overpriced when he joined them.  He's also Spanish speaking so he would fit in well, and seems to be the type of positive character we need more of in the dressing room.

There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Let me get this straight...

You think City, who are one of our closest rivals for 4th and have infinite amount of money, would sell us a capable striker who they just spent 20 million on last summer?

And they have to do it on the cheap as well then...
Why not give us Tevez for free just as for good measure then also?

No thanks, and lets not forget, Mark Hughes spent that amount who had more money than sense.

I dont think its a bad idea Mike. He is a player i would like  to see at Anfield although i would expect city to look for some of there money back.

Unfortunately we are shopping in the bargin basement and we probably couldnt afford him

Thought it was something worth putting to the great minds on here, since he is clearly not in City's plans and would IMO fit in well and make the perfect backup for Torres which we have desperately lacked this season.

But never mind, I bow to the greater knowledge of the majority of the little clique on here who, strangely for a discussion board, are only interested in listening to their own opinion, and take the p*ss out of anybody else's opinion.

I dont think anyone has actually taken the wee wee.

Also, this point has been raised before. Myself, I dont rate him as a player. At Blackburn he stood out. He hasnt at Man City so the chances are he wouldnt stand out here. At one time we were mentioned as being interested during the regular rumours and even then quite a few (myself included) said no thanks. By doing well at a lower league club his price was boosted, and Mark Hughes was the fool who fell for paying that price.

I may not be a "great mind" mate, but I thought he did a great job at Blackburn and if we can get him I think he could do a great job here. He is excellent in the air and has good movement.

Might cost a bit more than £8million though mate..... maybe £10million, if we can scrape that much together.

I just can not see City selling a player, to us of all clubs, for half or less than half of what they paid a year ago.
it isn't Portsmouth we are talking about here and have no pressure to sell whatsoever.

It's just as if I would say:

Why not get Joe Cole in the summer?
He is on a free and would make us better.
Talk like that is just stupid as you should think be before you write.

Joe Cole would never come as he would shatter our wage structure and we can not compete with Manure, Chelski and City.

Just buying for any of the other top 6 clubs is damn hard and they will sell to anyone but us 1st even for less just so we dont get them. We are never going to get a good deal making business with team around us fighting for the same spots!

Too likely the Bellamy factor about him, had one good season at Blackburn and in RSC's case is living off that. ONCE in his CAREER has RSC scored double figures in a season, and that 23 is more than any other three seasons' tallies added together.

Whether Citeh would sell to us is very debatable, they can afford to say "you want him, cough up £25m" since they don't need to sell - to us anyway. They could sell for £5m to £10m to any club abroad, or back to Blackburn. I doubt any club worth mentioning would be banging at Blackburn's door to buy him the next season. He was a punt that paid off for rovers, sometimes they do.

And the comparison with Bellamy, his highest goals in any season is 19 when Norwich were in the 2nd tier. He scored 14 and then 17 for rovers, we bought him after those 17 and he scored NINE. His nine for citeh this season is his best return since. Wouldn't buy anyone from rovers, should maybe have bought Warnock back but I can't see the leprechaun at villa letting us have him (cheap)
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer
