I'm surprised this hasn't been brought up in light of our obvious demise, so I thought I'd throw it into the mix.

I don't think there's much doubt to anyone who looks at our current situation without desperately trying to prove they were right all along, or how loyal and "real" they are, that the current manager is a busted flush. He is dead in the water in terms of successfully managing the football club, and although many will call the players a "disgrace" it is clear they have decided not to play for him anymore. Once that happens, it is only time which is a variable when it comes to a manager leaving. Now I say this fully aware that my first thread in a couple of months will stir up some controversy. There'll be those who say they "still believe" (though I'm not sure what in), they'll say "it's the owners" (innit), "fecking Gerrard/Parry/the refs/Moores" etc etc etc etc and delete as appropriate, but they always say that and I long since stopped taking any of them seriously to be totally honest. There'll be those who's line of reasoning doesn't bother with any of that, they'll just call me a c... instead as it's quicker and a card free way of getting their point accross.

I'm going to disregard all of that though, I'm going to make the assumption that the manager will be gone at the end of the season (almost certainly to Madrid) simply because it suits him and us down to a tee. It'll save us having to pay an exorbitant severence fee for the ridiculous contract he was awarded, it'll save us having to stump up God knows how much for the legions of his backroom buddies, and it'll mean we can get a manager in who at least has a shot at getting the players to play to somewhere near their potential. It may well be that winning the league anytime soon is impossible anyway, but surely the club can employ someone who can make a better fist of things than the current manager. It suits Rafa this Madrid thing too, because he'll have a chance to rebuild his shattered reputation. Quite what madrid will make of him remains to be seen, but that's for them to worry about, we owe them a dodgy deal or two anyway.

So the question is, do we wait till the end of the season or do we come to an arrangement beforehand and go with Dalglish as caretaker manager? Do people think we would be likely to get more points before the end of the season with Dalglish as manager or less? Is it just possible that a surge of belief which Dalglish would bring could be enough to re-ignite our push for Champions League football next season?

Like I say, he's surely gone anyway so do we wait or do we do the deed now?

Don't see what it would achieve when the players quite literally can't be ar$ed. Why would a new manager now change anything for the rest of the season?

There was a time when players would run through walls to pull on the red shirt. These lot won't even break into a sweat and it's really pi$$ing me off. :angry:

The question is surely a valid one Mick. Would we be likely to get more points, less points or the same number of points in the remaining matches of the season if we had Dalglish as caretaker?

My feeling is it would be more, simply because the players have already decided it seems to me that a change at the seasons is inevitable as things stand. The writing has been on the wall for a considerable amount of time (a long long time in truth) but right now it has got a neon sign above it and a mega powerful spotlight shining on it. Those who can't read it either have learning difficulties or simply close their eyes when it comes to looking at the obvious.

So simple question. More points, less points or the same number of points with a manegerial change?

I would stick Rafa, managing the u15's and stick Kenny in for the rest of the season....yeh i know what your thinking, he must be nuts...but what do we have to lose!!!

No, Lets stick with Rafa until the end of the season. I don't think its best to see a caretaker manager right now with alot of shyte happening. Its better to see off the season with Rafa right now because honestly our season cannot be saved anymore, so it wouldn't make a difference if he was sacked now and someone took his place.

Lets finish this season, and start with a new management in the next one

Anyway, No, I don't want Dalglish in charge 'cos he can't do the job at this point in his life. Nor do I want Toshack even as caretaker (saw that elsewhere here today). Sammy Lee should just go today, whether Rafa stays or not. Ditto Pellegrino.
Hiddink is my choice even for the remainder of the season, possibly afterwards if he's interested, and failing that, Maureeno.

I think it should have been done ages ago personally.

I agree that the players are a disgrace and its hard to defend any of them.
But the manager needs to go asap.
We cant get rid of 3 quarters of the team just like that, we should be able to with the boss though.

Kenny would get more out of the players, realistically anyone would.

Is their anyone but the owners that can decide/press/force Rafa out of his position? Just asking as i'm not familier with the managment tree.

I'm afraid if it is only up to H&G ,Rafa will probably stay ,i also don't see Madrid going after Rafa, his style of managment is the complete opposite to this of there leading stars (Ronaldo and Kaka)..

Ive said it before, I think virtually any other manager would be an improvemet at the moment. I still believe that there is room in any managers locker for the arm around the shoulder, and telling the players how good they are to build confidence.

I think this is what Rafa lacks as I think he does not see the value in building someone up but rather point out how in his opinion you can improve..

Get him out, get Kenny in till the end of the season and see if we improve, because at the moment the team is actually getting worse with each game that comes along

Where Benitez ends up next season almost completely depends on what happens at Real Madrid and also how stubborn Benitez is going to be.

For want of a better way to say it, we're fu.cked. Plain and simple. We have a manager on a long term contract who we can't afford to sack, who the players are just not responding to anymore. We need a change.

The Madrid situation is interesting. It might just appeal to Benitez. He's under massive pressure here, he can't be enjoying it. He has owners that are clueless and impossible to deal with. If Madrid approach him, then for the first time since he's been with us, he might actually be tempted. But, on the other hand he might say no, sit on his massive contract and stick two fingers up to the owners and say 'dig deep if you want rid of me', knowing they won't want to pay to get rid of him. The other possibility is that his reputation is plummeting fast and Madrid may not consider him their number one target.

But the issue of the caretaker manager isn't really an issue for me. Madrid won't approach him, if they're going to, until the end of the season. To put him on 'gardening leave' before an approach has been made and bring a caretaker in, is essentially sacking him and we'd have to pay the compensation in full most likely. That's a completely different scenario from Benitez going to the board and asking permission to speak to another club, in that situation we'd get away with paying compensation because he's asking to go.

So no, for me bringing in a caretaker manager won't happen, whether it would affect results on the pitch or not.

I mean, it might be best for liverpool football club if he left now, but there's no way it would happen because we can't afford to sack him until another team come in for him

This was discussed a few months back and the answer on my part was "yes", it would be the better solution.

As of now I'd say the same.

That assumes it can happen but I'm really not sure we can do much more than speculate about the feasibility of making that change now, as opposed to at the end of the season.

We cant be getting worse because Rafa said that we were much better last night than we were against Wigan!

Right now Id settle for Kenny fkn Rogers as caretaker never mind Kenny Daglish
