if it is true then its even more important that we keep going just incase we dont get the league spot.

No mate, the winners get to play the CL WINNERS but don't get into the CL .

and the europa winners qualify for next seasons europa cup group stage... :buttrock

cheers peeps, thats what they must of been on about.

would be a good idea if uefa want teams to take it more seriously, lets face it they have no problem letting CL losers enter into it.

it was frustrating because we had so much possession , some good chances but not the goals to show for it.

putting my glass half full hat on... if gerrard and skrtl had scored from pretty easy chances in the box then it would have been a 2 or 3 - nil cake walk, and no one would have suggested it was a bad performance  :p

I can see you are incapable of a true match assessment....

I actually think Bamaga speaks sense and agree with most of his posts.

But not on this one about the effort of the players.
We tried and tried all night, it wasnt effort at all it was creativity tempo and end product.
We huffed and puffed but the players in the wide areas didnt produce and in that system it doesnt help if they arent doing it.
When Babel came on for Riera there was actually a bit of a threat.
I would actually have started Babel on the right and replaced Ngog with Kuyt if we wanted to play that system.
I think the young lad Pacheco could make a difference as well while we are so short on attacking and creative players.

But as i said there is no way i would question attitude or commitment last night.
Maybe tactics and formations possibly, but the squad is that weak in an attacking sense that the options are not great anyway.

agree that Kuyt would have done better than Ngog

this kind of game (at home, 'lesser' opposition) though is where Ngog will cut his teeth, and he'll learn from it.

For sure, he looked out of his depth at times - but he got a goal for his persistence

To be honest it was more for holding the ball up that i would have played Kuyt there and Babel on the right might have stretched them more and Kuyt is a bit slow in his decision making and obviously is slow pace wise.

I knew watching on the tv gave a different perspective to actually being at the game but I never thought TV could change the result

We always struggle against this tactic as we like to sit back ourselves. I thing we will win the return leg more comfortably as they will be at home and will be forced to attack more seeing as how they need a goal. I hate playing these defensive teams as we never look good.

so do we  just accept that we can't beat these teams then or do we look to improve because under Rafa in the last 5 years we aren't getting better at unlocking these teams which Manure, the chavs etc would p1ss all over.

How many times have Chelsea won the CL, or any European trophy in the last decade? Cup Winners Cup? So why use them as if they are the benchmark? These Romanians are not as bad as some of you fickle lot think. They battered Rangers away, and narrowly missed out in the last 16. They are a relatively hard outfit to break down, and if you park the bus, most would struggle to get a a goal or two, which is what we should have gotten, but had to settle for 1 instead. We're lacking a bit of spark up front, but that's been an issue this season and not in previous years, so your argument is baseless and doesn't stand up.

Even if we put out a full strength team all the time we aint winning this thing.

As for the Romanians didnt that mob play a non league side on Monday and won 1-0.

That side are useless.
