Europa league - Here we come

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

When we won the UEFA cup against Alaves back then, i dont think most of us complaining about winning the 'milk cup',waste of time cup etc.. are we happy back then? yes.. are we proud of it? yes...  then, why bother complaining now?
Judging by our poor performances in all competition this year, we should consider ourselves lucky enough to be given chances to compete in this cup competition. Unbelievable  :no

LFC exists only to win trophies , that's the saying isn't it . We're all gutted we are in this comp , might aswell console ourselves abit by going out and winning the fecker . Some of the best LFC nights have been in this comp over the years , so why not enjoy it for what it is , a chance to win a trophy . Reckon the lads will be going all out tonight , and judging by the team Rafa has picked he wants to win it to . COME ON REDMEN !!!

At the end of the day the players said they want to win it, we'll probably win it so everyone can shut up.

For those who would prefer to revert back to the old European cup system of the 70s, this is what the equivalent first round pot would look like had it been in place this season:

England: Man Utd
Spain: Barca
Italy: Inter
Germany: Wolfsburg
France: Bordeaux
Portugal: Porto
Holland: AZ Alkmaar
Scotland: Rangers
Turkey: Besiktas
Hungary: Debrecen
Switzerland: FC Zurich
Malta: Hibernians FC
Finland: HJK Helsinki
Norway: Rosenborg
Czech Rep: Slavia Prague
Luxembourg: F91 Dudelange
Ireland: Bohemians
NI: Glentoran
Iceland: F. Hafnafjardor
Denmark: FC Copenhagen
Serbia: Partizan Belgrade
Ukraine: Dynamo Kiev
Sweden: AIK
Austria: Red Bull Salzburg
Belgium: Standard Liege
Romania: Unirea Urziceni
Bulgaria: Levski Sofia
Greece: Olympiakos
Cyprus: APOEL FC
Poland: Wisla Krakow

West Germany entered two teams, sub in the two next best (that I can think of):

Russia: Rubin Kazan
Croatia: Dinamo Zagreb

Plenty of ladas in there but I suppose you could call yourself a 'champion of champions' if you won it.

There would be more ferraris in the other competition, though.

Spot on Igor. We may as well enjoy the ride even if its only in a Lada and not a Ferrari   :D

And maybe we'll be driving around in the Lada next season, or perhaps even go bust if we lose revenue by not qualifying for a Ferrari for next season.

Actually I like the Ferrari comparison, we're like Team Lada on the F1 circuit at the moment! Are we going to win it? I doubt it, we've yet to score more than one goal in any cup game this season, if Reading can beat us at Anfield and we can't win more than 1-0 against the likes of Urine-A of Romania and Debris of Hungary then what odds us going all the way in a cup. Plenty of teams have dug deep and ground out a result, at the moment that is all we seem capable of.

But that's what I love about this forum, deluded fools talking up winning a competition. I can't believe we are actually favourites in this competition, doesn't say much about the quality of the rest but maybe LFC fans aren't the only ones who can't come to terms with us not being at the races at the moment - out of the Champions League at the group stage, out after two rounds of the League Cup and crashing out of the FA Cup to a CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE AT HOME IN THE 3RD ROUND - not even a high-flying Championship side at that, Reading are far from safe from relegation

The attitude and character the lads showed last night epitomises my feelings about this comp. Maybe if those soft tw@ts who are being paid extraordinary amounts of money playing in red could show some desire and character it wouldn't be as bad.

I am not so sure it was about a lack of desire, as the Romanians had 11 behind the ball and defended by throwing their bodies in front of anything. We always struggle against this tactic as we like to sit back ourselves. I thing we will win the return leg more comfortably as they will be at home and will be forced to attack more seeing as how they need a goal. I hate playing these defensive teams as we never look good.

so do we  just accept that we can't beat these teams then or do we look to improve because under Rafa in the last 5 years we aren't getting better at unlocking these teams which Manure, the chavs etc would p1ss all over.

That match was dire. I actually started ironing and washing up during it.

If you are going to call somebody that name, then at least spell it correctly, otherwise it becomes ironic :D

Agreed though - anybody who watches soaps deserves to be shot in the head.

is it true the winners get into the Champs league next season, im sure it was mentioned yesterday or was i hearing things.

if it is true then its even more important that we keep going just incase we dont get the league spot.

No mate, the winners get to play the CL WINNERS but don't get into the CL .
