Went to the Ian Frodsham Centre with my nephew yesterday, it is an amazing facility, the training pitches are like bowling greens ! it made me want to put my boots on one last time :D .

Anyway he looks like he is making real progress there and the coaches seem really excited by him. They are teaching them tricks and turns that I would struggle to pull off ???

He goes back again next Saturday and from there they will start to reduce the numbers and unfortunately tell some that they haven't made it

I will keep you all informed of any further development, but at the moment it is looking really promising.

They kept calling two kids with United tops on ( one said Nani ) Nani and Grandad :D and they told the other kids to imagine they are facing Rio Ferdinand and they have to turn the ball away from him quickly because his breath smells, teaching them to be Anti Man U at such an early age :D

My son has all  the ability, touch, shot & control but lacks the application sometimes and thats what fustrates me the most. It's not that i expect him to play like STEVIE G every week but I do expect the effort especially after i stop up from a night shift to take the team to some godforsaken team way up the valley at 10am on a sunday morning. I do think that maybe i'm a bit too hard on him coz he's my son, does anyone have any advice?
i've started to do a website for our team it's only at the beginners stage yet but feel free to have a butchers.

Drop him. Give him 20-30 minutes in two games running as a sub and make sure in those games he's doing alot of running and covering ground and doing the dirty stuff. Just say to him you're not playing because i need someone who will work hard for the team... and explain what he's doing wrong. If you then don't see an improvement when he's coming on as a sub, continue not to play him. Its the only way he'll learn and at that age he will learn. Also show him video's on youtube of players like Carragher and Gerrard making tackles and tracking back and point out how amazing it is. Instill it in him its important and he'll probably start to bring it into his game.

Praise him when he does the dirty stuff but don't over praise him aswell. What you're probably best doing is sitting down and talking to him now about how to find space, how to use his abilities and how to mask his weaknesses.

If you grab them young enough you can iron out faults, attitudes always a good place to start. The key though is getting the balance right. :)

I thought I would give someone advice to a 4 month old post as well:

When I spoke to one of my old basketball ball coaches and coach mentor what I should do about a similar type of player he gave me this piece of advice :

"What the brain doesnt comprehend, the butt will"

Put them on the bench, but you have to figure out how to do it in such a way that they dont look at it negatively.  You really have to earn their respect with your knowledge of the game.  I guess at 9 y/o thats a bit hard but you have to get their attention what ever way you can.

Good luck

Took me ages to dig this post back up

Anyway.....hes still at Liverpool ( after he tried and didn't like City and Burnley  )??? . I went to watch him a couple of weeks ago and was alerted to some "dodgy looking bloke" ( my sisters words ) taking a very keen interest in him, writing notes and talking to the coaches. Next minute hes is called over to speak to the "dodgy looking bloke" and the coaches and then put into a higher age group for the remainder of the session where he continues to impress.

The "dodgy looking bloke" = King Kenny himself  :bowdown

Hope he makes it.

My 12 year old cousin who's a striker currently plays for Derby U-12's and (trying not to be biased) he's probably the best player in the team. Tried to persuade his dad to move him to Liverpool but it's too far to travel from Leicester. It's a real shame.

fair play mate sounds like he is really coming on, well done to you for putting yourself out for the lad

i also have a 9 year old son who plays and is doing really well i love running him around and doing all i can to help him in anyway i can ( something my mum or dad never did sob sob ) there are perents of good players in are team that just don't give a sh*t and that is such a shame

i spotted something in his game i though he could be better at, he seemed to be waiting for the ball to come to him to much and not making sure he won it, always seemed to let the other team get the ball then make the tackle, i spoke with him and the coaches about a few things we use to do in my rugby training ( my old tame game ) about it always being a race to every ball and that he should not be waiting

i worked with the coaches with some drills and he has been 100% better getting most balls before the other team and when he doesn't he is straight in there with a crunching tackle ( spot on ) and he also won man of the match last sat

so destro i hope he comes on leaps and bounds mate keep up the good work
