We'll draw with Ghonerhea tonight

(I hope we don't, want us to win, no injuries, and can someone tell me how to spell Ghonorhea?)

Id agree with that. I think the reason we see it as such an ugly sister now is because since Rafa arrived we have been heavy hitters in Europe mixing it up with the best teams year in year out. We have gone to the toughest teams in Europe and beaten them on their own turf so it would naturally feel unthinkable to play in the secondary tournament.

(Aldershot holds twice as many)

And when we won the European Cup in 1977 we played Crusaders of Ireland who also had a smaller "stadium" than Aldershot.....big deal

I never accepted the league cup, "Milk Cup", whatever else it has been called cup, was a mickey mouse cup ...it's a trophy and in my book, I like to win it and be there when it happens...

I use to go and watch the Senior Cup finals......

I agree ....it could be a cardable offence :;):

For once I nearly agree with you.  :D

I will be watching tonight and hope that we win, if we are in it then we might as well try our bloody hardest to win the damn thing.

I agree that as long as we are in it we may as well try to win it. I DON'T agree its a "prestigous" competition and I don't think we should play a full strength team. Personally I always want Liverpool to win, even if its a preseason friendly I expect us to try to win, and its certainly more important than that.

For the people rattling on about how its only because we are accustomed to CL football that some of us see it as a disappointment to be playing in this, I would say NO its just because we are LIVERPOOL. Saying a cup is a cup is on a par with saying  Lada and  Ferrari are both just cars.

Play some youngsters to give them experience and if we progress then maybe we will all start to become a little more excited by the competition, if we fail early ...... who really cares  :D All the Rafa lovers will be saying its a good thing as we can concentrate on 4th place anyway.

Nicely put. I doubt you'll stop the rattling though, to stop it you generally have to take the rattles off babies :D You are right, it's FA to do with thinking we're bigger than the EuroDisney League from being in the CL, it is to do with priorities and even if we were still in the CL the Premiership should take priority, although in those circumstances we wouldn't be neck deep in doodoo trying to finish fourth so fielding a second string wouldn't be needed to rest players.

Are the rattlers the same ones who go on about injuries, or maybe they've conveniently forgotten that we're without Torres and Johnson already, do we really want to go back to being without Torres, Johnson plus Gerrard and Benayoun (did I hear/read he's back in training?)

The other thing to consider is if we were (good enough to be) in the CL still we'd be at the last 16 stage, not being good enough we got an extra two games until the final. We've quite often performed poorly before/after CL matches, we simply can't afford to chase a pipe dream and not finish top four. The way we've played this season, THIRTEEN defeats already this season, winning it is not even a serious probability, at best we have a CHANCE.

If I'd make any allegations regards fan outlook, I'd say some have taken on bitters/Fulham/villa/boro etc mentality of giving themselves a much bigger chance of winning a tin pot than they really have. We may have more hope of lifting the EuroDisney League trophy than Reading have of lifting the FA Cup, but not that much more. Maybe our complacency is in thinking because it is two rounds that we can beat anyone else, well we thought that before we crashed out to Fiorentina and Lyon because we couldn't beat either HOME OR AWAY. We only just crawled past Debrecen home and away, couldn't beat Reading at home or away and have lost way too many home games this season (Reading, Lyon, Fiorentina, Arsenal, A Villa off the top of my head)

I only watch the league (number 1 priority) and then the so called Champions league.

I don't care about the rest.

Maybe the anti-rafa brigade should be hoping we do ok in this cup then, lessen our chances of finishing 4th and increase Rafa's chances of finding his P45 and a one way ticket to Real Madrid on his desk.

That said, if we can't afford to sack him as is popular belief, will we be able to without CL football next season? One way to become 'unaccustomed' to playing CL football is not to qualify, maybe that is what the rattlers want
