ZSP are willing to pay £2m?!? Seems a bit low for an "international full-back". Of course it's not a stupid move on their part, offer well below his original cost when he's clearly not a 'big player' in Rafa's plans and test his resolve. Does Rafa hold out for more or sell to get rid?
So there's more raging success for Rafa's 08/09 signings :
08/09
£20.3m Keane - sold within six months
£8m Riera - out of favour towards the end of his first season, now a mix of injured and playing second choice to Benayoun
£7m Dossena - out of favour within 6-12 months, played little this season and possibly to be sold after 18 months at a loss
£3m Cavalieri - bench warmer mostly, not that convincing when called upon
£1.5m N'Gog - the relative success of last season's signings
£0m Degen - never likely to be more than back-up
Of the 07/08 signings :
£21m Torres - massive success, probably doubled his value if not more (if we were to sell)
£11.5m Babel - massive flop, probably halved his value if not more (if we were to find a buyer)
£6m Skrtel - many fans raved about him early on, now most prefer Agger - nuff said
£5m Benayoun - relative success, certainly won a lot of fans over and proved worth at least his transfer fee if not more
£5m Lucas - hasn't won fans over, may never do so. Not a bad buy for £5m, not sure he was supposed to be 1st XI this soon
£0m Itandje - disgraced himself, but like his £3m replacement he was never going to feature much
£0 Plessis - showed early promise, but having played the first league game of 08/09 he hasn't played in the league since
£0 Insua - gone from inexperienced to 'jury out' to rated by the fans and then backwards step to 'jury out'.
With the jury still out on Dossena, Kyrgiakos a flop and Johnson a defensive question mark, does that say a lot for Rafa's transfer activities................? Out of SEVENTEEN signings, three have made their mark, two or three are jury out and some have gone already with a few more bookies' tips to join them. Apart from N'Gog we might as well not have signed the rest of last season's transfers, the previous season was successful mainly for Benayoun and Torres, although most would accept Skrtel as a good signing too. This season's signings have a lot to do to prove they are (massive) improvements on Arbeloa, Alonso and Hyypia - individually in some cases, collectively for sure.
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer
