Is Quagliarella the forward the mancs were reportedly interested in? And we were supposed to be interested in Lavezzi

Lavezzi and Hamsik are both great players.

Although whats the point in Dossenas agent saying he is attracting interest from Napoli? He turned them down due to wages before.

Hamsik is reportedly wanted by Chavski as well, so unless a) we can do a part exchange for the Doss AND b) come up with the rest of the cash from somewhere (mug a lorra lorra grannies !!), this ain't gonna happen....
Apparently Hamsik is happy to stay put anyway...

Maybe he's realising that he won't play 1st team football at Liverpool and that a dip in wages but playing is better for his career. If he signed a four year contract then he'd have to sit on it for another 2.5 seasons before it runs out

just seen this

Atletico Madrid and Zenit St Petersburg lead chase for Liverpool's Dossena

Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena is set to leave Anfield with Atletico Madrid and Russian club Zenit St Petersburg the frontrunners for his signature.

The 28 year old has been limited to only four appearances for Liverpool this season.  Since his move from Udinese in 2008, Dossena has failed to establish himself in the Liverpool side.

The  Italian, who has ten international caps recently said, “It is clear that staying on the edge [of Liverpool’s first-team squad] is not good and it might be better to find another solution."

According to the Daily Mirror, Atletico sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch has already been in touch with Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez about a move, while reports in the Italian media suggest that Zenit St Petersburg will make a move for Dossena.

Liverpool would likely welcome funds from Dossena's sale as Rafa Benitez is aware that he must sell players before making significant signings ahead of the January transfer window.

Didn't he want £40k a week ? Maybe he can see the writing is on the wall and go for less - just a thought!

Dossena may just want to see out his contract, might not care about playing and too much about the wages. We'll either get shot or we won't, either way it reflects on Rafa that he paid £7m for a big flop, at the time he was our most expensive defender ever. Our second most expensive CF ever flopped, our most expensive midfielder ever is struggling to get on the pitch let alone make an impact, so what does that say for our manager.................!?!?!? "No money" and what he has spent unwisely

Who the fecking hell is he ???

Liverpool flop Andrea Dossena is off to Russia to fund Rafa Benitez' swoop for Norwegian strike ace Erik Huseklepp

Liverpool are ready to offload Andrea Dossena to fund a move for Norwegian forward Erik Huseklepp.

Zenit St Petersburg have joined the race for Dossena and value the Italy left back at about £2million - £5m less than Rafa Benitez paid Udinese for him 18 months ago.

If the Reds are prepared to take such a big hit, the same fee should be enough to snare Huseklepp from Norwegian side Brann.

The 25-year-old, who can play up front or on the right wing, would jump at the chance of a move to the Barclays Premier League.

His agent Stig Lillejord said: 'If these rumours are correct, it's great. They are a big club and it's nice if they have noticed Erik.'

Wigan Athletic and Hull City are also said to be tracking Huseklepp, who scored 15 in 30 games for Brann last season and opened his international account in Norway's 4-0 victory over Scotland in August.

His agent added: 'There are several clubs who are seriously considering Erik, but I can't comment on which clubs.'

Dossena has made it clear he wants to leave Liverpool after finding opportunities hard to come by in the run up to next summer's World Cup.

Napoli and Juventus are keen on a loan deal, while Atletico Madrid have also been linked with the 28-year-old.

Zenit's new boss Luciano Spalletti is keen on his fellow Italian as he looks for competition for South Korea left back Kim Dong-jin, who has suffered unexplained bouts of fainting.

ZSP are willing to pay £2m?!? Seems a bit low for an "international full-back". Of course it's not a stupid move on their part, offer well below his original cost when he's clearly not a 'big player' in Rafa's plans and test his resolve. Does Rafa hold out for more or sell to get rid?

So there's more raging success for Rafa's 08/09 signings :

08/09

£20.3m Keane - sold within six months
£8m Riera - out of favour towards the end of his first season, now a mix of injured and playing second choice to Benayoun
£7m Dossena - out of favour within 6-12 months, played little this season and possibly to be sold after 18 months at a loss
£3m Cavalieri - bench warmer mostly, not that convincing when called upon
£1.5m N'Gog - the relative success of last season's signings
£0m Degen - never likely to be more than back-up

Of the 07/08 signings :

£21m Torres - massive success, probably doubled his value if not more (if we were to sell)
£11.5m Babel - massive flop, probably halved his value if not more (if we were to find a buyer)
£6m Skrtel - many fans raved about him early on, now most prefer Agger - nuff said
£5m Benayoun - relative success, certainly won a lot of fans over and proved worth at least his transfer fee if not more
£5m Lucas - hasn't won fans over, may never do so. Not a bad buy for £5m, not sure he was supposed to be 1st XI this soon
£0m Itandje - disgraced himself, but like his £3m replacement he was never going to feature much
£0 Plessis - showed early promise, but having played the first league game of 08/09 he hasn't played in the league since
£0 Insua - gone from inexperienced to 'jury out' to rated by the fans and then backwards step to 'jury out'.

With the jury still out on Dossena, Kyrgiakos a flop and Johnson a defensive question mark, does that say a lot for Rafa's transfer activities................?  Out of SEVENTEEN signings, three have made their mark, two or three are jury out and some have gone already with a few more bookies' tips to join them. Apart from N'Gog we might as well not have signed the rest of last season's transfers, the previous season was successful mainly for Benayoun and Torres, although most would accept Skrtel as a good signing too. This season's signings have a lot to do to prove they are (massive) improvements on Arbeloa, Alonso and Hyypia - individually in some cases, collectively for sure.

You´re too hard on Yossi, he´s scored some key goals and is always a handful. For 5 million, the lad was an excellent buy.

Insua is also holding his own, its natural for a 22 year old to have a couple of bad games but overall he´s certainly holding his place and is one for the future.

Dossena is surely Rafa's worst buy. Morientes didn't work out, ditto Keane, but what on Earth made the manager spend 7 million quid on this bloke? He is absolutely terrible. I'd take tyhe 2 million quid if it is offered all day long. He truly is garbage (as a footballer I mean, I'm not personally slurring him or anything before the real fans give me a kicking).
