Championship - Savage smashed in the face on air
Controversial Derby midfielder Robbie Savage was smashed in the face by a football on Sunday, despite being seated in a radio commentary box.
..Savage was broadcasting during Aston Villa's match with West Ham at Villa Park when a ball was booted into the stand to leave him with a bloodied nose.
Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov lumped the ball into the Welshman's headset to prompt cheers from an amused crowd of spectators seated around him.
Savage's co-commentator Darren Fletcher reveled in the incident, and relayed events to the listeners while on air.
"Fantastic! That's absolutely fantastic," Fletcher exclaimed, as Savage was heard chuckling in the background.
"You see, you can say anything you like about me - as a professional he should have controlled that. It's actually knocked his headphones clean off... He'll be back with us in a minute.
"It came flying into the commentary position and hit Robbie Savage square in the face... I think they call that justice," Fletcher said. "He's actually just checking his nose for blood."
"I think there is blood," replied Savage, as the pair descended into hysterics.
The Derby captain later confirmed to reporters he had not broken his nose, but did put the nosebleed down as his "most bizarre footballing injury".
I can't stand Robbie Savage so well in Stiliyan Petrov.I'll never know how on earth he has his own column in the Mirror as he is thick as pig sh!t and he is always more bothered about ripping into our team more than anything else.
