There's a saying, "the buck stops here". If Rafa goes, his team of backroom staff will go with him, and some critics are pointing the finger at some of the scouts for recruiting players who aren't up to it, ie Babel, Lucas, Insua, Ngog, and now Aquilani will soon be joining that exclusive club. But scouts only suggest these guys, it's Rafael Benitez that signs them. Babel always looks disinterested, but then he has never been given an extended chance, which any player would need, to fit into the system. Lucas is an average player, who was clearly backing out of 50/50 balls against Reading the other night, but he doesn't have that something special. Insua is too short (not his fault I add), but too slow, (a bit overweight from what I see). He would need to go to the Manchester Ring Road just to turn. He was beaten very very easily, then just gave up in the move that led to Readings winner in the FA Cup and was out of position so easily.Ngog will NEVER be a world beater. I could name more and go on and on to describe the faults, (Deggen, etc)
Last season we were (according to Ancelotti) the best team in Europe by far. How can we have gone downhill so quickly.
Why DID we let Crouch go, (superb skill for a big man) - Sold! Robbie Keane was never given a proper chance, because Benitez did not want to want him- Sold! Bellamy would never let you down- Sold! Xabi Alonso wanted away mainly because Benitez didn't always consider him first choice - the man was WORLD class- Sold! Pennant is a good player but again was too underused- Sold!  look at the "quality" squad we have now. I watched the Stoke match today, I think they had 11 corners, -- we had NONE!!!!. Last year we dominated the equivalent match, this year we were outclassed. We have got to call into question Benitez's thinking, as it baffles every 'Pool fan, Four and a half years ago we were European Champions, then I thought " right Fergie, I think you should retire gracefully, as WE ARE BACK!!!," and I foresaw us dominating the Premiership for years. but we are now just a middle table club in decline. We are one of the two top supported clubs in the world, along with Man Utd. We are the most passionate, "peoples" football club in the world - and it is up to us as fans to say -Enough is enough.

not sure if i read it on here or not but if we finish outside the top 4 does it trigger a clause in his contract that we dont have to pay him 20m?

Wow, fecking brilliant read from a 'gooner' nice kind words, it almost makes me want to put faith back in Rafa.

I'd happily and enjoyabley eat humble pie if Rafa could ever turn things around, that is of course if he is around long enough too.

Head says Rafa needs to go, but after reading that my heart tells me otherwise.

In all fairness, I quote this post from the same site by a poster nicknamed "Valentine"

"Rafa has been here for 6 years and apart from last season fluke has shown no sign on bringing the league title back home. Its about time you look at the facts, the fact is he buys :censored:, he plays :censored: tactics alot of the time and will not win it under him, sorry guys it is just reality, we are mediocre and when gerrard leaves we will be even worse, the first thing what needs to happen is owners out but I still wouldnt stick with rafa, he is stubborn and I re iterate again buys :censored:.
I would rather him buy 1 world class player each summer at least we would have 6 by now, instead he buys 3 :censored: players and these are the facts unfortunatly. I am a liverpool fan the club is in crises from top to bottom, the sooner you realise this and stop kidding yourself the better."

It is no argument that outside torres, reina, alonso, yossi and very very few others...he does indeed buy cr@p at high prices and firesold most of them at summer sale prices.

Last year's to me was not a fluke though but realistically we were not consistent at both result and the way we played. TBH, the style and tactics we play are always predictable even to the lesser teams.

Although I am not for "Liverpool-is-a-two-men-team-kind-of-bullcr@p", but statistically if we take gerrard and torres out of the team, we became a typical Hull or Fulham, as painful as I have to transpire.
Our game has become somewhat very much predictable without the two (and sometimes even with those two playing). They just know how to beat us no matter how good we play because we are so predictable.

Maybe what we really need now is not a new manager and a bunch load of new players, but a pure fat free miracle to turn this season around.

I think we would all love to see Rafa turn things around, as it would mean Liverpool were winning games and having success. I just don't see it happening though mate, we have too many players not willing to give everything for the cause and too many players who are not quite up to the job anyway.

3 years .... going on 4, is just too long for a club of Liverpools standing to go without a trophy and we need fresh impetus to move us forward. Maybe if our beloved owners turned round and said here's £80million go and buy some top players, that would be enough, but as thats a little unlikely, I think we need someone who can do more with less.

Nothing you can say will make me change that belief. I refute the idea that Rafa can become incompetent over a short space of time.

This thread fails (on all levels) to sway the belief that Rafa is a shrewd, intelligent and ultimately deserving manager of Liverpool Football Club.

Perhaps YOU should see a psychologist - ask him why you delight in seeing the club you supposedly support struggle.

I'd love to hear the answer.

In my mind's eye I just saw Fat Sam on the sidelines at Anfield telling Lucas to get forward.

I threw up in my mouth a little.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

I think he is making a huge mistake there, is it the same situation ?
We are a team AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME that should be competing for trophies and we are not.
We have a good squad, he has had plenty of money and the fact that we are in this situation is unacceptable.
Lando you can carry on calling people knuckle heads if they have an opinion that the managers not upto it, but with every game these people appear right and its you that seems like the knuckle head - not because you support Rafa, But because of the pathetic way you insult people to defend him, with out any actual reasons or point to your posts.

I wouldn't deign to explain anything to the likes of you.

You're a right knobhead, aren't you?

Wanting the team to lose now!

Unbelievable. :no

It's a case of papering over the cracks with Rafa....win 1....then lose 2!.....he has been pulling Rabbits out of hats, and doing the "Houdini act" by beating the likes of Man utd for a couple of seasons now. but at the end of the day it's only 3pts....whether it's man u or portsmouth?......he has to go....and the few knuckle heads on here who blindly grope for a crumb of Rafa's rambling excuses to hang on to are Living in self denial...a win at stoke (which is highly unlikley) given the shabite (his shabite) that he will start without the 3 main injured players wont make him any more safe.....his days are well and truly numbered....hopefully I will be able to count them on my fingers!. :nod

Hopefully, you'll break the f*ckers whilst you're at it.

So Rafa is playing with fire, he deserved to get burn. Only the club and fans are innocent parties.
Also the treatment of Babel is a disgrace, if you are not going to play him, then fu.ck.ing loan him back to Ajax or sell him to Brimingham for 9 mil instead of letting him rot on the bench, spoiling team morale and his market value.

Rafa is really stupidly stubborn.

Oi, dickhead - Babel REFUSED to join Brum.

Why don't you blame Rafa for the fact that your boyfriend doesn't fancy you anymore, too?

Lady's funspot.

Rafa is stubborn, yes, but I don't think you fully grasp some of the reasons for the things you've mentioned in your post. Why loan Babel back, or flog him if we are skint and in dire need for players? I'm sure Rafa would love to get rid of the lazy b"stard, but it's out of his hands when what good would it do to sell if you know you can't spend?

Did Rafa not grasp the fact that once he sold Alonso he needed a class player to step right in?
His best option had to be to drop SG back and spend the cash on a class forward to play alongside Torres (who has injury problems)
One of the last options must have been to pay 20ml on an injury prone Italian who needed an op that would keep him out for months

Now which option did Rafa opt for?

I'll tell you what, son:

If you were the leader of MY team, you'd have one hell of a f*cking mutiny on your hands with your twisted logic.
