The Gambia - Anybody been?

So, I've been handed an incredible opportunity to go on an all-expenses-paid trip to The Gambia through work in a few weeks.  I'll be traveling with a colleague who's been there once before but I've never been anywhere near West Africa.  Has anyone been through this part of the world or know others that have?  If so, what's the buzz?  ???

Closest I've been is probably Lanzarote.

Have a look here though. The general update thread is quite interesting :D

I know a guy who went on a religious mission there, that is, to convert to catholicism, he was a priest.

I don't know if he converted anyone, but he got married with a local woman :D and left his priest condition.

I think I can contact him yet. All I remember is that he had to put a lot of vaccines to go there.

The country's mostly Muslim, mate, so I don't think your friend had much success.  :D  Definitely not looking forward to the vaccines but the rest should be good fun.

Thanks for the heads up Judge.  I have no plans to go anywhere by myself and we plan to spend most of our time with a pair of Gambians who my colleague has worked closely with in the past.  Have you been there yourself?

just say salam to everone you meet. don't use your left hand to touch anyone or food and don't point with your index finger, use your thumb.

also armed guards and running shoes.
