I have no grandchildren yet, and as long as I carry a shotgun I don't expect any!

Do you only get the hot flushes when you think of me Nanny  :D

Well, I have seen my two oldest progress from junior school, both of them becoming school councillors before moving on.

My missus got pregnant but then had a miscarriage early on (a couple of months into it from what I can remember).

I fought (and won) a court case against my mother who tried to take my kids of me. Long story put as briefly as I can. Me and my missus were working, she used to look after the kids after school. She developed an unhealthy obsession with my oldest lad. When my missus came out of work, my mother realised she wouldnt be needed as much and so went to her solicitors telling lie after lie about us, and what horrible parents we are in order to get our kids. She didnt want our second oldest (Darren), but her solicitor pointed out that to show favouritism towards her favourite (Daniel), she would jeopordise her case. In the end, the truth came out and she lost miserably.

I met my dad a couple of years ago. The last time I see him I was about 4 years old. He always thought we hated him, I pointed out we have never known him to love or hate him. Things are going well so far, we invited him over for christmas again this year and had a good time.

Christian was born almost six months ago, and despite his problems, is coming on nicely, even now as I type, he is sleeping soundly (from 5 o'clock this afternoon). A godsend himself, always smiling and a generally happy kid, despite what he has been through. My tower of strength.

Losing my cellarman job was a bit of a kick in the nuts as well but other than that, a lot to be happy about. It could have been better or worse. The positives far outweigh the negatives. Im a happy man :D

Hmmmm...let me see....

In the past decade, I've:
Had two kids (well, not me physically - the missus) - a boy and a child (girl - sorry to all you feminists out there :D  ).
Been made redundant four times, but am back in FT employment the past 4+ years now.
Stopped drinking after going totally overboard on it for years and almost losing the wife and daughter (Got back with herself and we since had a wee boy).
Am still stopped (see previous point).
Looking forward to having more happiness and joy in the next decade.....

Great start to the new decade. Feckin' electrical store delivered the wrong fridge freezer, the missus is like an antichrist, and the wee lad has been screaming his head off since 10 a.m....

Strewth....

So what has the last 10 years brought you......

How did you quit smoking DD? I've tried a few times and ever only seem to get fatter and of course to no avail. :)

Moved to Australia, bought an investment property, got engaged and now work in a remote Aboriginal community.

I quit smoking 18 mths ago.
Firstly you have to really want to and then I think the trick is not to do it in one go.

I used to have my first fag walking into work, then 2 at 0900, 2 at 1030, 5 at lunch, 2 at 1500, one on the way home, and then perhaps a few at night.  more if i was drinking.

The thing with smoking is it's all about habit.
Drink = fags.  Eat and then a fag.  etc etc

What i did was to drop the 1st fag in the mornning, and not have one until 0900.  It wasnt easy, but i had the next fag to look forward too.  After a few weeks, i know longer needed a fag first thing.
I then dropped the 0900 fag, and dragged it out until 1030.

I then cut down to just one fag per fag break.

eventually, after a year i was only smoking when i was going for a beer.
That was the hardest.  But after going out on a few nights out and managing not too smoke, the habit was beat.

It took me probably 2 years to totally quit.
Its too hard to just say, thats it, never again.
every day you eat, drink, walk, drive, and each time you come across a moment you are used to smoking its a battle.
Fighting a dozen battles a day is too hard for anyone.
Just fight one battle a day, until its no longer a battle, and then move onto the next one.

Keep plugging away and you'll get there.

I started off the decade by being a nervous wreck of an expectant father.  Got married when my daughter was 9 months old (yep we did it backwards).  Wow, Erin will be 10 at the end of this month.  On September 7th of 2001 I was a warehouse manager for an automotive supply company and so I finished out the week by taking my daughter for a ride, I had a delivery in Brooklyn and my wife was preggers with our daughter Kassidy, I had been meaning to take a trip into the city to get a cheesecake for our first anniversary anyway and since my wife could use a little free time from a toddler, I took her with me.  After making the stop in Brooklyn for the delivery we made our way into Manhattan and then to the West Side Highway to go uptown to where I needed to go to get the cheesecake.  I still remember pointing up as we were at a traffic light on the WSH and Erin laughing and in awe over how tall the World Trade Center towers were, we were right next to them and I wish I had taken a picture of her with them (funny how you take things for granted when they are right there in front of you).  Three and a half days later those towers were gone (along with a few friends), I don't think I'll ever get over the full impact of that day.  The company I worked for got hit hard by the impacts of 9/11, I ended up being replaced by a younger guy with no family, before the company went bankrupt.

Luckily though, things got alot better, our second daughter was born, and being out of work and my wife having an economics degree, she started working for a bank and is now a manager of that bank.  We've got three absolutely amazing children (at least we think so) and have the proverbial American, house with a pool, and a big yard, and a dog.  My son Shaughn is now 5 he's our youngest.  He plays Ice Hockey in the winter , soccer( sorry) in the early spring to early summer and baseball from mid spring thru summer, and then soccer again from late summer through the end of november.

Basically, my life right now is absolutely nothing like it was 10 years ago.  A decade ago, priority wise, it was just me.  Now, it's Erin, Kassidy and Shaughn, then Gina, then Me.  It's strange, I obviously have memories of when I was a single guy without a care in the world, they just seem so far away from who I am now.

Just before the ball dropped on New Year's Eve I pulled my wife aside and got really sappy and told her how, "Over the past decade we've gotten married, had three kids, monumentous stuff, It's obvious we won't have a more productive decade in our lives."

Her reply: "You're drunk aren't you"

How poetic.
