Well we didn't have 1.5 million to spend on Hyppia's replacement Red. We had 39 million quid to spend in the Summer. We chose to spend/spunk 20 million quid of it on a player who hasn't played for us yet, and spend 17 million quid on an admittedly impressive right back. That's why we didn't have much change. It might actually have been an idea to talk to Sami about taking up coaching, working him into the backroom team, giving him a pay rise etc. He might have stayed then. We could then have bought Nico Kranjaar for 2 million quid with the change left over. Or we could mauybe have bought Gareth Barry for 12 mill, and Darren Bent out of the change to give us some cover up top.

That's what Mourinho would have done (to get the thread back on track

Now I don't know Michael ,I would sooner go with my theory of him and his designer stubble hitting the road sharpish as soon as he got wind of what them two Yanks were actually about ,and where their priority lay ,in point of fact he might of even departed sooner had he not been able to procure Drogba or Carvalho

.... all speculation of course we aren't talking real scenarios....... are we ?

That's what Mourinho would have done (to get the thread back on track ).

To be fair mick i like mourinho but i dont necessarily see him as the wheeler dealer that your making out.
Harry Redknapp would have done what you said but so far we have not seen evidence of Jose knowing how to wheel and deal with bargains.

Thats not to say he couldnt, we just dont know yet as he has never been in that situation.

There is no question our transfer budget could have been spent alot more wisely this season though.

Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack has warned his team-mates to ignore the mind games of former coach Jose Mourinho ahead of their Champions League clash in the round of 16.

Mourinho, now at Inter, will return to Stamford Bridge to face the Blues after the draw pitted the two side's against one another.

"Mourinho has said he does not need to study us, but were [Branislav] Ivanovic and [Nicolas] Anelka part of his old team? It's part of his game," he said, according to Datasport.

"But we are only focusing on ourselves. On our part, his psychological traps must be avoided.

"It's true, he has an advantage because he knows almost everything about the club, but the Inter players will be on the pitch, not him. It will be a great battle from beginning to end."

Mourinho had suggested the two matches against his former side will have no special significance for him, but the German captain thinks otherwise.

"For us it will be a special game, but also for the Portuguese coach," he concluded.

José Mourinho says he wants to return to English football but has pledged to remain with Internazionale, the Italian champions, until the end of the season.

"I want to come back to England. I'm not the kind of guy to keep his feelings hidden," the former Chelsea boss said after watching his old club beat Fulham 2-1 yesterday. "I have always said the same – I love it here, I love it here, I love it here."

Mourinho, 46, was sacked by Chelsea in September 2007 after three years in charge and took over at Internazionale at the end of the 2007-08 season.

"I won two titles in three years [at Chelsea] and all the other cups too," the Portuguese manager told the S*n. "I was very successful, so it is normal that other clubs here will want me. I won two titles with Porto, two with Chelsea and now I want to make it two, plus two, plus two by winning it again with Inter. That would be special.

"I don't leave any club in mid-season to go to another. So until the end of the season there's no chance that I will leave Inter."

Chelsea, now managed by Carlo Ancelotti, play Internazionale in the Champions League last 16 in February.

I'm all for Mourinho coming next season. If he brings the league and success I will be happy as fúck. If he fails, it will be my turn to make a sarky thread everyday.

Seriously though, I don't share the eternal hatred to anyone, if a manager, any manager, becomes the Liverpool manager, then I'll support him.

Mate he's born to manage in England. It may not be the most technical, but it's the best league in the World. You see Mancini jumping up and down on the touchline because Man City have scored against Wolves sending their thousands and thousands of travelling supporters into raptures? He ain't seen feck all yet. Wait till they play a big game, Burnley away or something with five games to go and Man City take 10,000 Away with them, only 1/3 of whom have tickets. Why do they do that? Because we've taken 15,000 Away to Birmingham as we're also in the fight for the top four, Villa have taken 10,000 to Everton, Spurs 15,000 to Wolves. Meanwhile Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal are trying to win the thing.

Mancini has made a good start though, he's embraced it which is what you have to do. You can't change it, you can't impose your philosophy onto it, you have to roll with the punches.

I think if I was an Inter fan i'd enjoy Mourinho while I can. Enjoy the fact that he winds everyone up and that your players can go into games completely free of pressure because the manager takes it all. Enjoy the fact that you'll probably win the league yet again. Enjoy it while you can, because IMHO Mourinho is coming back to his spititual home, time will tell though at which club he'll end up.
