Not the same trophy and not the same prestige in winning it mate.

I will enjoy the ride and the win (hopefully) but its hardly one to be throwing in the mancs faces. Slightly above what the league cup has become, but below the FA cup in my esrimation.

i'd rather cement 4th place.

and besides liverpool wont win another single trophy under rafa., unirea may well be a surprise package but they beat rangers and some other half decent team to get this far, write them off at your peril.

They sound a bit like some unpleasant social disease

Im sure they beat Ranngers 4-1 at Ibrox.

And they beat Seville at their place.

Let's not get complacent (I don't specifically mean you mate) like we did before our
Champs League group stage kicked off.

Only professional to - play in goal (41 appearances), Defence, Midfield, Striker, and later be Director and then to be Manager (winning a Championship) - at one club

Still believe 4th place is the priority and players like Gerrard, Masch, Reina, Johnson and Torres shouldn't be risked. And Kuyt should be rested since Rafa is going to start him in every EPL game, not because he's a key player (to me).

And best chance for the reserve/subs especially player like Pacheco. I reckon he'll be a great player one day.

This is a competition we could do without.

We are struggling badly in the league, we don't need our best players being injured in a second class tournament.

Play Kuyt, Lucas, Dossena, Riera, Skrtel, Babel and some youngsters etc by all means

well i bet rangers were the favourites to beat the new boys in the competition.

rangers arent a great european team, your right, but i'd have put my mortgage on them beating unirea.

I dont feel it has lost anything tbh mate - just look at some of the teams in it - it will still be hard to compete in it . Certainly a trophy we should take seriously and if we can win it - can say we were the first ever winners of it  :D

Its nothing like as prestigious as the old UEFA cup mate , and its not being the FIRST winner that counts its being the LAST winner mate. :D

I would hope we don't take it too seriously, I would like to see a mixture of youth and experience in it, while we concentrate on the more important FA cup and CL place.

Obviously as we progress it will become more of a target , but at this stage its third on my list of priorities.

What has changed that makes it now such an inferior trophy to what it was eight years ago? Instead of three rounds there's a group stage but after that the format is identical, and most of the teams competing where it matters remain predominantly second tier sides.

It seems to be the case that it has only gone down in one's estimation because we've become used to seeing the team progress in the Champions League over the past five years.

You have to expect that kind of thing when you come on a Liverpool forum expressing your wish for the team to get knocked out sooner rather than later.

Dont get me wrong, i hope we win the thing... Just like i do the Carling Cup and all the friendlies... Just dont think that given our situation it should be a priority of any sort ... As far as im concerned being in the Europa league gives us a chance to try out some of the backup players and the youngsters.. Would be very surprised if Rafa goes for forr our starting 11 on a Thursday fixture against Unirea and decides to rest Torres and Gerrard on a Saturday fixture 2 days later against Wigan or Stoke...

Whilst I'm not exactly all giddy about the Europa League atm, I do very much agree with this post. Hope we win it.
