What can we do... - To get out of this mess

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Some players need a rocket up their ar'se and I'm not sure there are too many ways you can go about that.

Team moral issue aside, if before wasn't, then now's the perfect time to give Aquilani a starting run of three or four games on the bounce. Pair him with Masch, or alternatively stick Gerrard back in there and play Aquilani as the link man. Someone mentioned a 4-3-3 in another thread with Aquilani and Gerrard dovetailing, Masch covering, Kuyt/Benayoun on the right and Pacheco/Riera on the left. I'd go with that aswell but the most important change has to come in the centre of midfield. Even if it's just putting Masch, Gerrard and Aquilani in there and letting them work it out between themselves, just get them on the pitch in the middle somewhere and that'll do for now. Maintain the Agger-Carra partnership and stick with Aurelio at LB. Finally, get Pacheco in the squad and give him some worthwhile game time.

If Rafa is willing to try Aurelio in the midfield, why not Johnson?

Like the thread suggest, something to shake things up because it does need some shaking.

I suggested this a while back... I really believe playing Johnson on the right flank and I would play Darby at right back would make our right side pretty formidable and let's face it Kuyt is just not doing it this season,

I would start like

                  Reina
Darby. Carra. Agger. Aurelio
Johsonn. Aquilani. Mascha. Reira
                 Gerrard
                             Torres
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Hope Chelsea,Arsenal or Villa win the title over the next few years, until we come out of our hiatus.
We dont want those Mancs topping the total top flight league wins anytime soon.

Play Aquilani from the start. With Reina, Johnson, Carra, Agger, Aurelio/Insua, Yossi, Masch, Kuyt, Gerrard and Torres that is a brilliant team capable of beating any team in the world. It's a slight variation on the team that hammered everyone at the end of last season.

If Stevie, Johnson, Aquilani and Torres remain fit their match fitness, understanding, rhythm and fluidity will improve and that team is simply too good to keep getting beaten. Confidence will return and the form of some of our lesser players will pick up.

It could all go tits up of course, multiple recurrent injuries, Rafa refusing to play Aquilani, or Aquilani not adapting; Masch becoming unsettled again; confidence falling further and a CL spot disappearing out of sight (given we're currently eight points behind Villa!). Who knows? I think it's got as bad as it's going to and well steadily climb the table from here.

No major changes for me apart from playing Aquilani. Continue with 4-5-1, hope we get more stability in the team, that's the best chance we have of getting some way out of the trouble we're currently in.

Also, hope we get some spending money next month although I wouldn't count on it.

I think its time to integrate  Johnson's pace as a winger into the team ,Riera simply has to play ,and I would concur about Pacheco starting, but I would play him just behind Torres to provide the invention the Reds are currently lacking ,that would leave Aquilani to play in centre mid along with Mascherano and here's the surprise I would play Gerrard at right back  ,albeit until he finds his form ,Agger and Carragher in the back four  along with Aurelio .. I believe once we find the right stability at the back the rest will fall into place ,and Gerrard would provide this .

interesting red but gerrard is wasted at RB, gerrard isnt out of form as such, he isnt fully fit.

if anything he could play carra there and use skrtel and agger in CB.

i like the idea of pacheco starting though.

Everyone knows Gerrard is the engine that drives and inspires us ,and currently he for whatever reasons is running on empty , that's why he would boost the confidence of the back four with his inclusion , plus Gerrard has proved to be exceptional when utilised in this position .

what he said, something has to give in Midfield, especially the centre of the pitch. Its been atrocious this year

Use this formation:

Jonhson - Skrytel or Agger - Carragher - Insua

                    Mascherano

   Benayoun - Aquilani - Gerrard - Reira

                        Torres

Don't play Kuyt! Use him as a sub when Torres comes off

Play Aquilani every game from the start for christ's sake

Get wins in the next few games to boost the teams confidence before the real crunch games begin next year.

If you have the opportunity install Guus Hiddink as interim manager before finding a long term solution.
