I don't see why people are so convinced that if it warms up a bit, that would be a bad thing. If there is one thing people should have learned from studying climate is that there is no set normal Earth temperature, and that its going to change whether we like it or not. All the species alive today have ancestors that have survived and adapted to both a colder and warmer earth that we see today

joe take a look at geological time and the continents to answer that last piece of you sentence.

as far as the earth warming up - its simple

if the earth warms, the ice caps melt

then more fresh water is dumped into the sea, causing desalination. that means the sea is less salty and less able to hold heat.

with me so far joe ?

then when the homeostasis is disrupted, we get a sudden cooling of the earth, which leads to glaciation (ice age)
so if it gets too warm, we get cold !! simple

"Global warming" is a mis-nomer. That's why the phrase "climate change" is being used more often. It isn't that the temp is simply going to go up a little bit, it's that the weather patterns are going to get chaotic and very unpredictable leading to extreme conditions.

If it was all just about a little heat, there wouldn't be such a fuss.

You might if you lived in the North of England mate. If the gulf stream swings away towards France because of melt water from the polar ice caps, we could be under a 100ft of ice in the North and Scotland....... and I don't want to live in an igloo

basically my viewpoint on the subject

its mostly about the whole ethics issue behind any kind of legislation that tries to force human behavior at the begining, and then more to do with climate change in the 2nd half.

The reason why I started this topic is because it amazed me that my teacher who seems fairly intelligent, goes on about Global Warmining and how Al Gore is this messiah. I know that humans are doing harm to the planet, but shouldn't the big oil, auto and chemical companies pay for this and not us. It's they who produce all of these harmful products for us to use.

You will, when evey year means a combat with flooding, or winds that can lift the top of your house off, or collapse it altogether.

Or when refugees from weather beaten countries decide to hotfoot it over to where you live to escape tsunamis, tornados and Whirlwinds etc.
