if this was just about a run of bad results, and a league position 5 or 6 places below where we should be this season, and a few less than glorious performances then i wouldn't be too worried about the manager. with the first team getting together again on the pitch again and the knowledge that these players can perform together (we've seen all the evidence) i'd be fairly confident about us going on a run and easily making the top 4.
however, the thing that is really worrying, the thing we are seeing little signs of and reading little snippets about, is the possibility of benitez having lost the dressing room. of course, we don't know if he has or not - but little signs like players negative body language on the pitch, the team warming down in separate little groups, half hearted performances in must win games etc etc only serve to fuel the flames of the rumour.
if he has lost the dressing room, or at the very least caused the players to lose belief in him, to lose the will to play for him, then we really are in trouble. i'm not sure there's much of a way back from that. the odd phil brown type team talk on the pitch, or a bonding trip to marbella, or a fun night at the lfc xmas karaoke isn't going to fix it. probably the only sensible course of action for all concerned is a change of manager, and sooner rather than later. there's no guarantee that such a change would bring our season round and its a huge risk to take, but going through the rest of the season with a bunch of disillusioned players is an even bigger one.
