Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

That is the sort of posting we need more of. Not endless anti threads by those just intent on scaremongering.

Yeah I was gutted. Im starting to think im a bad jinx on the team. Almost every game I have been to this season we have drawn or lost.

I was going Portsmouth but not any more. Will be going Villa away though. I've been spending a lot on trains going to games recently so need to take a breather.  :D Want to go on hols in Jan too.

Arsenal have won naff all for 5 years yet the media aren't jumping all over them are they. Instead they choose to gush about their "wonderful youth policy" which has produced one player (Fabregas) and he was nicked from Barca !

Chelsea haven't won the League for 3 years and never won the CL despite their efforts yet SKY aren't spunking themselves silly over their consumate failure are they !

Liverpool Football Club will come through in the end and whether they ever win the Prem or not I'll still be still be supporting them through the wind and the rain

Walk on:p

I often come into the match threads on occasion and write a post of similar tone. I often get shot down or get laballed "over-optimistic," with the odd rhetort of something to do with rose tinted specs, which is a boring, over-used f*cking phrase that does my head in. Oh, and "happy clappy." Whatever that means.

But the OP of this topic wasn't as bad as I was expecting, actually. Fairly balanced opinion on the matter without being the typical shyte that's been thrown about here in blaming just one person for all our troubles.

Everyone has their fair share of blame to shoulder in this mess; but only one man can, and will, eventually sort it all out in time.

We are still believing that Liverpool Football Club are invunerable and that "it will all turn out OK in the end". It wont.
It's not just Raffa. I genuuinely believe that he's a honest man who really believes in his methods. That self belief is fast becoming his downfall as it is not working with the players HE has signed. These are his players and his methods and they are just not up to it.
It is not just the players. We've two of the greatest Red Shirt Fillers I've ever seen over the past 50 years. The others are not bad players but they either do not understand or just do not want to play in Raffa's gameplan. We keep signing journeymen who are here for the money. I don't blame them for doing that but it's not doing my team any favours. They are grateful for the wage packet but not for the honour of playing for Liverpool.
It is not just the directors/owners. They've not come to Anfield to destroy the club. It is business and it is in their interest to succeed. Sitting in the stands with a brand new scarf on doesn't make you a supporter. They are here to make money, first, second and last.
I believe that we are now reaping the fruit of those years in the 80s when opportunity knocked and was ignored by a club that was resting on its laurels.
Shanks and Paisley made everything seem easy but unfortunately others didn't realise how hard it was to make it appear like that. Me included, it just seemed unstoppable, The Red Bandwagon. One star would come to the end of his shelf life and the next one was ready and waiting to come in.

We are now a club that needs to make big money signings which we cannot afford. The team ethic has gone. No players seem to be coming up through the ranks already knowing their place and requirements in the side.
I know that bargains are not there anymore, there are no more Keegans or Clements waiting to be nicked from Scunthorpe.
I also believe that we are paying good money for players who are no better than some of our homegrown lads.
I went over to The Acadamy last week and you may as well have been in Spain. Where are the local lads going ? I was watching expensive imports there but down the road I could watch local lads with similar skills and a bloody sight more commitment playing good football for nothing.
The few times I've seen Torres around town I've seen a modest, well behaved lad who is a credit to the club. The same cannot be said for some of the over rated superstars (both Red & Blue) who swan around with an unjustified arrogance. Torres is a breath of fresh air at Anfield but he is by far, an exception. Shanks would have loved him. I'm struggling to think of another import who would pass this test (probably Kuyt, honest and hard working).
The club is in a BIG mess and it will not recover overnight. The shake-up that is coming had better be a good one or we will never recover.
This is The Last Chance Saloon.

ouch ! the truth does hurt

Well I think Liverpool has lost it's identity, it no longer has an image of a club that is feared or respected for its football brand.

Liverpool needs to re-invent itself & rebuild its image from the good old days when it was the Barcelona of football.

Easier said than done, I know! :D

I hope I haven't been misinterpreted, but my slant on it was that we are up and amongst it still despite our poor form! Not doom or gloom by any means as I try and take all the positives from our season decline.

Arsenal - won :censored: all despite their 'pretty football' tag.

My point is that LFC seems to attract extreme negativity whenever is possible and our shortcomings are over-analysed and over-exaggerated to the fullest whenever possible. We've become the team that everyone wants to see fail, more so than the scum (which I thought everyone despised) and I can't see why, other than the media hounding of Rafa, an educated man, who doesn't deserve such critisism that other managers escape.

arsenal does play "beautiful football", albeit without much success in recent years. people were calling for wenger's head last time this year but he is somewhat "immuned" to criticism bcos of his earlier success.

i am not sure if the media really has a particular agenda against rafa or LFC.. it appears so but probably more complicated than that.

the thing is.. LFC has a "good story" developing here.. and reporters smell blood. glorious history, bad owners, eccentric manager, bad finances, bad results, etc etc.. perfect ingredients for a good story. and you can't defend some of rafa's decisions really bcos they are so bizarre and bound to be questioned whenever they go wrong.

But that man has won major trophies throughout his career and some of the criticism from those bad manager/ex player-turned-pundits are totally uncalled for and sometimes downright silly.

Well said, but be careful when using "walk on" as some on here seem to take offence to it.

Frankly I would rather read we are better than are, that constantly reading we are doomed. The negativity is doing my head in.

You can't expect to find people full of the joys of spring when the side is in a run of two league wins in eight, three wins in 14 in all competitions. If you find the "negativity" (or realism as is arguably more accurate) too much then take a break from the forum. I've done it a couple of times, it is good to take a break from here. I'd recommend it to anyone who is picking up cards or finding the tone too repetitive and not to their liking. In fact I'd suggest the mods advise people on three cards to do it, give themselves and everyone else a break and perhaps avoid the red card.
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

Negativity may be more accurate but doomed certainly isn't. I want the truth (yes I can handle it) but in this world of extremes we seem to have ended up in, I would rather "happy clappy" than "doomed" as it makes more sense. Life is hard enough and there is nothing wrong with an escape. If you are always positive, better things will happen to you than if you are constantly negative. If you are going to wallow, let it be something that smells sweet rather than something that smells of sh1t.
