I'm not sure if this has already been posted, but here's Xabi's interview with the BBC where he discusses leaving Liverpool and his relationship with Rafa

I'd love to have him back and the fact that he's 31 doesn't bother me, he never was one for bombing up and down the pitch and his quality and vast experience could only be beneficial to the club.

However I seriously don't see it happening as I think FSG would put a block on his signing purely because of his age, hopefully they'll keep their inexperienced noses out of this one IF Rodgers and his staff are considering his signing.

I've got a sneaky feeling he'll end up at Chelsea.

Alonso doesn't hate Rafa Benitez, have you ever watched an Alonso interview? He has no hatred for anyone that fella, he's a top class player and I reckon if Chelsea offered him the same money he's on at Real Madrid for a shorter contract, he would have qualms about moving to Stamford Bridge. If Chelsea sign someone of Alonso's class and bring forth Lukaku and sign Demba Ba, they'll be laughing all the way to the League title.

I was and I'm a defender of the Rafa's work at Liverpool (well except for the mistakes he made at the end). But I talked to Alonso's dad when he left and he was very tired of Rafa. It was not a revenge for putting him as a player to sell, it was more like he was fed up of constant instructions, you did this wrong, you did that wrong, and things like that.

Rafa didn't manage well Alonso, it's true that he wasn't working under the best conditions but cases like wanting to sell Alonso for a ridiculous price were HIS mistake and that alongside Xabi's other obsession, to win a league title, made him go to Real Madrid.

Now Alonso has not the obsession of winning a league any more, and he's a man of challenges, and he understands what a football club mean. Because of that, I don't see him in Manchester or London. It's known that he's refusing to extend the contract in Real Madrid ao far, and I think there's a big chance of Alonso ending up either in the club in which he's still a season ticket holder, Real Sociedad, to try and win a title (cup or something) for the team that raised him, or he'll end up at Liverpool, to try to give Liverpool the league that Liverpool deserve.

I would bet a lot of money that Alonso wouldn't go to Chelsea or Manchester United. That's something BTW that I didn't like to see in Rafa. It's ok you might be worried about keeping yourself in a top club, but Chelsea? I mean come on.  :no

Welcome back Sabre. With regards to Rafa, I don't think he expects anything more than being an interim manager of Chelsea just like how Guus Hiddink was. He was out of the game for a few years now and probably wanted to be back on the scene and on the market to find his next long term management job.
