In this season of death....... - Where did we most go wrong?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Lando_Griffin » Sat Nov 28, 2009 12:09 am

I'm sorry folks, but anyone who fails to see that the entire club has moved forward tremendously since the days of Houllier is not worth bothering with. The only area that has moved backwards is the ownership - everything which the manager alone is responsible for has improved beyond recognition. We're still a way behind the biggest spenders, but as far as our own level is concerned, the only reasons we are struggling are form and injuries - nothing else.

Some quite interesting debate in the end, and not a bad thread. FWIW I agree that the team has improved since Rafa became the manager, I don't think you can take our admittedly woeful current form as representitive of our abilities. The issue for me has never been whether or not we have improved, it's whether or not it's by enough.

As far as the claims that Man Utd already had their squad in place when Rafa arrived, or that we have spent only a fraction of the other clubs, once again this has been proven not to be the case here so for me they are both non issues. Equally however, it's a non issue whether or not we have improved, because quite simply if we play our strongest team we absolutely obviously have.

If we return to the point of the thread though before it got well and truly derailed, THE major mistake we made for me was not moving Gerrard back into central midfield at the start of the season and sticking with the plan. Yes we've arguably been unlucky that Aquilani still isn't ready to play, but the Lucas/Masherano central midfield axis has for me had by far the most impact on our dreadful start.

Liar. You have proved nothing and even the vaguest grasp on reality would have you red at the cheeks for such a dishonest comment.

We have established that Man Utd had 10 of the title-winning team of 2008-09 when Rafa arrived. Man Utd have won nothing this year, numbskull.

This is PRECISELY what I mean about swerving the facts.

Have you still not calmed down from the other day. Go back and read Aces post where he goes through the Man Utd squad and it's all explained in there. As for the insults, I am as bored with them as I am with you to be totally honest.

No need to call anyone a liar mate. You were wrong the other day, no one called you a liar.

BTW I think you are wrong again mate, the mancs DIDN'T have 10 of the title winning team of 2008-09 when Rafa arrived.

Lando has been free with the insults over the last couple of days, as have his sidekicks. They will get their wish before too much longer when I bow out, but it will be under my own steam and when I'm ready, not hounded out by him and his mob.

I actually think the last couple of days have been up there with the worst I've seen on the forum, and no doubt if him and his cohorts ever read it back they will be very proud of themselves for the way they have carried on.

Fair play to Lyndsay the other night for trying her best to call them off, I appreciated that particularly as we by no means agree on absolutely everything.

Disgusting though really, an absolute disgrace.

Dont let the a$$holes pull you down.. or something amongst those lines...

You bring alot to the forum mate, if only for all the football related stuff you type here... and trust me its alooottttt... more than can be said about most here, myself included...

Last few months i havent been posting much, been reading alot though... Seems that only a few are interested in discussing football nowadays, even fewer are capable of doing so while making sense... you're one of them, whether i agree with your posts/opinions or not....

Anyways.... modding has been funny last couple of days i agree with that... i see my post from yesterday was deleted... guess the mods thought it might provoke a reaction from Lando that would get him carded... wouldnt want that to happen now would we ?!

Anyways, back to the topic... Think that the reason why we are where we are now comes down to a combination of reasons...

- top of my list would be the injuries to key players... The likes of Riera, Agger and Aquilani to be specific, and Torres and Gerrard to a lesser extent given the fact that they started a considerable amount of games....

- Second reason is our failure to cope with different situations... Games when we needed to switch back to a 4-4-2, or when we needed Benny to play behind Torres and it never happened... Manager has to be blamed for failing to recognize our obvious shortcomings in such situations...

theres a bunch of other reasons but im too drunk to type anymore now....  see ya'll later. ...

There isn't a single top quality manager out there who would willingly join the club given our current financial predicament.

I don't want to drag this thread into ANOTHER who will we get as manager ...... he won't come...... we can't afford him..... he's too old etc etc, but we have someone at the club now who has SHOWN you don't need to spend a fortune to take a club from second place to champions..... Dalglish.

Liverpool won NOTHING the season before he took over, they won the league and Fa cup in his first season without spending a fortune on players. Gaining more points than Rafa ever has along the way.

So lets take it for granted that "someone" somewhere will be willing to take on the job and get back on topic..

Saint, it will require another rebuilding exercise for the team.

And stop living in the past - today's game involves lots of money. Get to grips with it.

Honestly mick you have taken over as the Forum's drama queen since peewee. You want to bow out do it, you want to keep posting do it. At the end of the day it changes nothing, the forum will survive either way (sorry to burst your bubble but you are just another poster, nothing more nothing less). To constantly theaten us with you absence (and then not do it) makes you look like your are crying out for attention. Clearly some idiots are telling you to reconsider, but if you keep going on about leaving even they will no longer care.

If you look back yourself at the way you deal with others you will see I am sure, that you are not an innocent victim but equally responsible for any grief that comes your way. Lando may be extreme in his approach, but he is dead right about you.

Yet again - somone who is analytically critical of Rafa gets attacked on a personal basis.

Pathetic.

If anyone wants to know why some people dont bother any more, they just have to read back 3-4 pages.

If BM is the drama queen does that make you the bully of the forum?
Why are you continuously picking on BM, you and Lando do little else but go around hurling abuse at people, yet the mods let you get away with it time after time after time, it is really fecking up this great forum.

Anyone who verbally abuses someone who supports the same team shows their lack of intelligence, class and character.

So fu'ck off Lando and Kazza you pair of boring tits!
