Houllier left by mutual consent to enable Liverpool kept up tradition of not sacking managers .

And Evans?

Resigned .

The last and only manager and we sacked was way back after the war - Don Welsh

did not know that but leaving by mutual consent is pretty much the same thing as a sacking Benny.

You didnt know Evans resigned after he realised the joint managership with Houllier wouldnt work ? when did you start supporting again ? Genuine question .

Yeah he did Nanny, said he hadn't realised what date it would go out on. (which I suppose he probably didn't) Shouldn't have been talking to them anyway ! I think it was while he was recovering from his heart problem, so definitly while he was still with us.

heimdall wrote:erm did Souness really leave with his head held high??

Yes, I think he did.

Without the advantage of hindsight lets put ourselves in his position. He has taken over from king kenny. The first thing he notes is the age of the squad. At that time kenny dalglish could get the best from any squad, regardless of age or talent, he had a knack for pushing the players to their limits. Souness didnt. So he came from a successful rangers side to take over liverpool. As a player, Souness for me is in the top 3 players ever to play for us. As a manager, easily forgettable, but for reasons that anybody who took over now from rafa would be.

If rafa was sacked or walked, whoever came in would be in a similar position to Souness.

A few decent players but a lot of dead wood. A manager in the mould of dalglish before he quit anfield could get the best out of them, but then in that regard you are talking special, and lets be honest, not even rafa can get the best out of what we currently have.

When Souness took over, we had an ageing team. Good players but ageing. His fault here was to make too many changes too soon. Souness took the attitude (as have many others since his appointment) that what the team needs is youth. Younger players in the team. Dalglish played for the season. He had what he needed, how else can you explain David Speedie being in the squad? Dalglish took one season at a time, since souness we have played for the future, heres a question for those asking for rafa to be sacked and dalglish to take over, if dalglish remained would we ever have had Gerrard, Owen, Rob Jones? (I wont fall into the Robbie Fowler trap !  :D )

Souness took over Liverpool at a tricky time, and suffered with his health through stress. Souness started the changes, and they continued with the players he signed throughout the eras. When rafa won the champions league, people pointed out the players houillier signed, and before the frenchmans success evans' success and before him....

So yes, I would say Souness did walk out with his head held high, as he was the first to recognise the glaring problems that future managers would face. In the end it got too much for souness, as it did evans, houillier....

the past 3 pages has been the usual rubbish from GYBS and Nanny picking on Heimdall as usual....pathetic.

1) if we're out of europe, there's still the epl to play for. if we lose to everton, it depends on the manner of our defeat. i won't be too mad seeing our players bust their behinds for a win but if everyone were to play like babel or if our current manager were to make stupid substitutions, then something is very very wrong with the team and people would naturally get mad, at the players or current manager. a caretake manager would be a good option if he does get sacked.

2) i think, its safer from a business view to have a wait and see option but at the same time, in order for things to "improve", they have to somehow give him some finance at the very least.

3) there are no circumstances for us to not be in the top 4 as a club of our stature should be able to keep things up.

I certainly believe we should be starting to look at who is available, who will be available, and who is suitable if we lose the next two or three.

Dalglish left after a game against Everton, maybe his comeback will be after a game against Everton ?

The question is who Saint ?

Dalglish left for more than footballing reasons and can never see him coming back and he seems to me to be firmly behind Rafa as well .

Dalglish has already said he would be more than happy to fill ANY role for Liverpool mate.

Get Kenny in if Rafa is sacked/walks and then bring in whoever in the summer. Its all b0llocks this cr@p about they wouldn't come. Most managers would give their right arm for a job like Rafa's . Five years to build a team, full control over the youth, reserve and first team and £5million a year contract, and as long as they get CL football every year the owners are like a dog with two tails.

Although if we continue with this form I agree we may have a problem once we are relegated    :D

There is no saying the owners would basicaly hand rafa`s contract to someone else, would it not be more likely that they would try and get more controll back and save their selve a penny or two?
I think so, a new manager would have to earn a deal like the one rafa is on now, its not like they handed it over easily and if rafa didnt have them over a barrel he would never have got it.
No, unless the owners make a complete change in the way they run their "franchises" we`ll not see the likes of moureen, Hiddink.

not in mine either, as I recall he was hated by everyone when he resigned, as a manager that is.

To answer your question Ninny I didn't support anyone before Liverpool not in football anyway.

Yeah because your only a carlsberg fan really eh mate.
Oh well not long now. :D

Wouldn't it be poetic if the owners went and brought Moris in and he ended up being utter sh*t?
