Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

What was evident last night was,for the first time in a hell of a long time, just about every player was passing and moving..making sure that the recipient of the pass had more than one option for a return pass. Now certaim members on this forum don't appreciate that style of play, preferring the Gerard Houllier method, but the real connisseurs of football will be delighted by the performance.Alonso looked superb and it was Kewell's best game for awhile.Finnan is developing a great understanding with Josemi.
THERE'S A GREAT BIG BEAUTIFUL TOMORROW SHINING AT THE END OF EVERY DAY.
THERE'S A GREAT BIG BEAUTIFUL TOMORROW AND TOMORROW IS JUST A DREAM AWAY.

One of Alonso's qualities that nobody has mentioned and was very evident last night was how well he reads the game, he made loads of interceptions and was first to the loose ball on many occasions.

I read an analysis of the past 2 Liverpool games by a local (Malaysian) journalist and his take on Rafael Benithez's Liverpool revolution. This writer suggested that Rafa will adhere to the philosophy of "Club first" priority over any individuals.
He also wrote that Alonso is a technically more accomplished than Gerrard but does not have Gerrard's lung-busting drive to make 30 yard dashes, which while spectacular, may leave gaps shoule he be dispossessed and copunter-attacked by the opposition. It was also suggested that (prish the thought) Benithez will not stand in the way of Gerrard if he wants to leave Liverpool and that in Alonso, Liverpool will be quite prepared if Gerrard leaves.
Lika many here, I love Liverpool to death and would not want the Gerrard-Alonso partnership to be broken up and hope they do improve as a team and drive Liverpool to greater heights.
