P73 W40 D17 L16 (Won 54.79%)
Bear in mind FIVE of those wins were in the qualifying rounds we had to play in 05/06, in fact let's have a look at Rafa's record by stage.
Qualifiers : P14 W10 D2 L2 (Won 71.43%)
Group Stage : P33 W18 D8 L7 (Won 54.54%)
Last 16 : P10 W7 D0 L3 (Won 70.00%)
Quarter-Final : P8 W4 D3 L1 (Won 50.00%)
Semi-Final : P6 W2 D2 L2 (Won 33.33%)
Final : P2 W0 D1 L1 (Won 0.00%)
I've always maintained the competition starts "in earnest at the Quarter-Final stage", by then all the rubbish teams are gone and any of the bigger clubs left must have done something right. The record isn't bad, don't get me wrong, but it isn't great either. Only winning just over 50%, mostly in the earlier stages and still losing one in five is not great. In EIGHT semis and finals we've won just twice, one of those a much disputed goal by Luis Garcia (should have been a penalty but how many fans of other clubs would concede that technicality) QF's record is ok, a skin of the teeth, and looking nearly out on the night, win over Arsenal in 07/08, a home and away win over lesser opponents PSV in 06/07 and a slightly more convincing passage past Juve on the way to Istanbul in 04/05. Half those QF wins over a relatively weak side doesn't make for convincing reading.
This isn't the first time we've looked dodgy for qualification from the group stages, in fact we've often looked dodgy well before finally being found out (or not at all as in 04/05) We struggled past Standard Liege last season, in 07/08 we had one point from three games in the group stages and needed to win the last three and I doubt I need to remind anyone how we were 0-1 down at Anfield against Olympiakos. We weren't exactly comfortable in 2-1 aggregate wins over AK Graz in 04/05 and CSKA Sofia in 05/06, suffering home defeats and winning by one goal aggregates
So it's crunch time again, another run of wins needed to save Rafa's skin. Pains me to see the mancs and Chelsea are already through and Arsenal must only be one win away from joining them. Tonight might well decide if we join them, we should win in Hungary and at home to Fiorentina but then we should have beaten Lyon at home..................................... These days can we make predictions with any certainty, perhaps we should have match threads with a poll of the result (win, draw, lose) as a record

No wonder you support Rafa, you always think we will lose, so when we win you are pleasantly surprised, while the rest of us always expect to win, and are devastated when we lose
