Imagine the same team as last night but with Owen upfront.  :(

Anyways, i'm impressed. VERY impressed.

Looks like a real quality player and i'm sure he'll get better with games. Must admit, i thuoght Luis Garcia... Who's that? When i heard 6 million being branded about... He's winning me over very quickly but like all the new signings. Needs time.

and you have to remember this as well stu: Owen existence tends to make the game built around him, which Rafa unhappy with, since it may deform the overall, particularly, creativity and self-confident of the team.

I don't think the team being built around owen would've bothered Rafa, he was happy to admit that Valencia was built around Pablo Aimar.  Anyways, my opinion of Garcia

He's making me sit up and take notice, he's got pace, skill, intelligence, flair, creativity, agility, endurance, balance, acceleration, he looks an absolutely superb buy, a brilliant transfer move at just £6mill.  Along with Gerrard and Alonso's passing ability he created most of the goalscoring chances against Monaco.  The only problems is that he seems a little lightweight (not that its been a problem so far) and his finishing needs work.

Other than that I'm absolutely smitten with him as a player  :)

Garcia is a very skillfull player and is just the kind we need. He can hold the ball and distribute to others or can easily skip past defenders. Most importantly, other defenders will be on him like a shadow now which would create more space for the likes of Kewell, Cisse and Baros. Anyway, they played great last night and everyone deserve a pack on the back.:;):

Simply a class act. Its just a pity that he hasnt got around four-five goals already which he should have done! How we have missed such a player who has great touch and movement.

I've said on a couple of earlier posts that he looks a superb player. Awareness and a football brain, thats what sets him apart for me. An earlier poster mentioned Dalglish and while that is definately premature, I can see what he's getting at for sure.
Without wanting to kick the hornets nest, it must be said that so far, all Rafa's buys look like top value (notwithstanding Nunes, unknown quantity). He's probably too professional to publicly comment but I wonder what he really thinks when he looks at the likes of Igor (5m), Diao (5m) and Diouff (10m). Not of course that he spent over long looking at Diouff at all as it happens.

Great player with pace, movement, great first touch. But I don't want to take him for granted nor do I want to overpraise him.

the thing i like about him is that he just seems to pop up in great scoring chance's, he will create a lot of space for the rest of our attacking players, i really wanna see nunez now cause if he's anything near as good as garcia were laughing :D

STOP LIVING IN THE PAST STU!!

Owen up front you say. Even if Owen was around he would have been on the bench last night. And if he was around we couldn't have afforded our two spanish matadors. During the last few years Owen never showed the physical strenght and drive as the current team showed last night. I'm perfectly happy without Owen, and I think the money we received from the Owen sale was put to it's best use. I dare anyone to say they take Owen over the spanish duo Garcia and Alonso. With Owen I'm not so sure we would have witnessed the slick passing and the wonderful fluid attacking football as we saw last night. Owen was one dimensional which limited our attacking play.

Also look at the difference between last nights performance and a normal Liverpool game under Houllier. I'm really impressed. We put pressure on them from the first kick on the ball. Chasing them around like mad dogs, putting in tackles all over the pitch. Closing them down, denying them space, pressure, pressure, pressure;; PURE CLASS. Monaco was torn to pieces. This team looks really solid. And we are only going to get better. 5 years of mismanagement and bull.sh.it football can't be remedied in a month. But we are finally going in the right direction. Look at Josemi. A crowd favourite already. What a game he had last night. Beautiful passes, crunching tackles and some powerful runs. If that is what Benitez can get for £ 2 million I say wow. And what about the rest? Carragher looks two times the player in central defence than on right back. He does not need to go forward and do all the stuff a good fullback should do. Now he can concentrate on what he knows best. Defending and tackling. I can even see a big improvement on his passing and positioning. He won't have to listen to all the criticism about his lack of skills going forward any more, and his self confidence is increasing with every game. Sami looks more fresh, big stong and a good reader of thew game. Riise has improved 50% defensively and will soon start banging goals again.

Our midfield is looking good. We don't have to watch more poor play by the likes of Midget Murphy and Chicken breast Cheyrou. Now we have a midfield full of strong determined and creative players. Alonso can unlock any defence, and Gerrard is probably the best young midfielder in the world right now. Kewell and Warnock will fight for a place on the left. Our main weakness right now is right midfield. Finnan, average at best, will be replaced soon. What about Garcia. A more creative, hard working and skillful player is hard to find anywhere in the world. Everything he does is quality. He makes sliding tackles, he passes the ball around with perfect accuracy, he makes clever runs and so on and so on. I fear the opposition will give him very tough treatment, trying to take him out of our games. I only hope he can stay injury free and that referees give him the protection he deserves. I'd hate to see a pri.ck like Lucas Neill brake his leg.

Our forwards, well what can I say. I'm dissappointed with Cisse. He does not look like a goal machine to me. Instead of finishing with the inside of his foot, he goes for power every time. Baros looked more dangerous when he came on. And he was more calm with the ball inside the box. Cisse is still young and I know he will improve. At least I hope he can.

Overall I'm happy with the team and I feel we are going places. Benitez is the one. He will make us shine. I think I know what went through Houlliers head when he left the stadium last night. And I think you know too.

Owen leaving was the best thing that has happened to us in the past two years. He's been great for LFC but he wanted to win CL and now he is getting that shot, sitting on the bench watching his side get beaten.

Get a grip Stmichael. My post was full of optimism. And then you focus on the only negative thing I say. Yes I think Cisse should have been more calm last night. He does not have to try to kill the goalkeeper, just slide the ball in the corner that's all.

my take on Garcia....if he improves his finishing, he will be 1 hell of a striker/attacking midfielder. Guess, have to give him time to get this part of his game right thought. Have to say, i am amazed at how fast josemi & garcia have adapted to the premier league.

Looks like beneitz is as good as wenger in talent spotting.....

You can't expect Cisse to be a goal machine right from the start. I think he is frustrated with himself, obiviously he wants to score as much as he can.

When Jose Antonio Reyes first came for Arsenal he struggled, look at him now.
