Who do you want to see in january? - Realistic suggestions

In all seriousness I'd spend the money on paying off Rafa, failing that spend the money on paying off our debts or save it for the summer, £12 million won't buy us what we need and we don't need more stop gap players.

yep 100% reason why I shouted him today and few days ago cos he would like carra and gerrard give 110% no questions asked for this club and I also think he is fast and good in air and we need a bit of that from midfield.

Yeah all being good signing him for them reason's but really should we be thinking of signing a midfield out of The Championship who is getting on abit?

He's only there because that team was doomed since they was bought by that idiot.

He is much better then the league he is playing in was class at bolton and I still think with our training grounds there is still some growth in him yet even at 27 I mean he is a good player not great but you know what you get with hin he is % ball win up top of pitch and will get you goals. He Just hasn't been given a chance yet at top club and I got no idea why.

Spend the money paying Rafa off??

He's got 4 and a half years to run on his current contract.  How much do you think it would cost to pay off him and his coaching staff and bring in new ones??  A sh.it load more than 12 million.  You don't half chat bollox sometimes

Only an absolute idiot would get rid of the manager now.

decent player but would be overpriced as he's british. spurs were linked with him in the summer for £10m which seems way too excessive.

according to lee j, adam johnson has said he's staying at boro until the summer which means he could then leave on a free. in january you'd probably get him for £5m or so.

Well southgate scuppered everything he could for adam Johnson last summer. Adam will get more first team footie under Strachan thats for sure. He's Strachans type of player.

he still dreams of pulling OUR red shirt on though  :buttrock  but unfortunatly he is easily led and his parents don't want him to leave North East.   :glare:

Nolan is a good shout and with him being a local lad it could be just what we need.

Stephen Ireland I would take in an absolute heartbeat, he's a top class player imo.  Will be the number one attacking centre mid in the Prem within a few years when Lampard and Gerrard start to decline.

Even now though City realise that and wouldn't sell.

john craig wrote:My suggestions are...

1) Stephen Appiah.  Central midfielder and Ghana captain currently without a club but will play at the world cup.  Dodgy knees but what about a short term contract to take him up to the world cup?  Arsenal looked at him after he was released by Besiktas but didnt take him up, nor did another Prem club that had him on trial due to fitness concerns.  Couldn't be worse than Lucas as backup to Masch/Aquilani after xmas could he?

2) Aiden McGeady.  Might take all or most of the 12 million to get him, but he's a player that has really come on this season at Celtic imo.  Becoming more appreciative of team mates and better end product, while still a really tricky and quick player on the ball.  Can also play off the striker or either wing.

3) Gareth Bale.  Has completely lost his way and Redknapp doesn't seen to fancy him, but I remember him looking a classy young player a few seasons back.  I have doubts over Insua's credentials as 1st choice LB long term and there will always be doubts over Aurelio's fitness.  Could we hijack a reported 3 million January switch to Birmingham?  Worth it imo.

4)  Emile Heskey.  Did I just say that?!  Seriously though, we need a striker badly and more than that we need a target man in the squad so we can mix things up when not going to plan.  You know what you'll get and what you won't get with Heskey, but he's better than any striker in our squad bar Torres.  He'll also be available in January if reports are to believed.

5)  Luca Toni.  Why not?  Out of favour at Bayern, West Ham almost got him before the window shut.  Surely at 32 we could get a good half season out of him, he is proven quality.

6)  Ruud Van Nistelrooy.  On the slide and won't get a look in at Madrid this year.  If he's fit in January then at 33 I think he's still worth a look short term.

7)  Huntelaar.  What a weird few seasons for him.  A respectable half season at Madrid before being sold on, then talk of him being unsettled at Milan after just a few months.  Does have quality though and Spurs are hovering.  Worth a punt?  12 mil should get him I reckon.

I think your suggestions are pretty sound.

Both Heskey and Ruud Van Nistleroy will improve our options up front. RVN is still a great goalscorer given the opportunity. Heskey is strong and works hard. I can't see any reason why we shouldn't bring them here. We are after all shopping in the Kyrgiakos - bargain basement - after all.

As for splashing some cash on one player I do like that to be on McGeady. He is really quick and he is not afraid of taking on the defender. He will improve and he is exactly the kind of player we should be looking at.

What I don't want to see is money wasted on second rate players who play poor for a period of time and we then struggle to move on, if the deals not there don't spend it, this is soemting Rafa has struggled with in the past and wasted money on sub standard players.
I would without doubt rather see Pachecho, Spearing and Nemeth be given a chance in the squad before signing some of the players that have been suggested.
No point signing another striker as anybody with any real quality won't play understudy to Torres in the one up front we play we would be better off bringing through Ngog or Nemeth who would be ok with being on the bench for long periods.
No point signing another midfielder as we will have Mascherano, Gerrard and Aquaialani as our centre three and Rafa would always play Lucas after that.

im not so sure because what ive heard is that Man City are planning to buy Ribery so maybe Ireland might find opportunities limited considering the number of players they already have. in fact, i forgot about Petrov. he would be useful too. and Beckford is banging the goals in for fun at Leeds.

i notice your earlier post saying Bale is available for 3mil? good shout.  :nod

Offload Babel and Dossena and bring in Adam Johnson and Van Nistelroy who are both possibilities given their current situations!

Talk of Stephen Ireland, Micah Richards and Aiden McGeady are way off the mark cos either they wouldnt leave their clubs or Rafa wouldnt consider them!

Think it's more likely they'll end up selling Robinho if they manage to get Ribery mate.  Don't think Robinho's ever been happy there and he's making noises about fancying a move to Barce... I can see that happening maybe...

Think Ferguson made a cheeky enquiry about Ireland before the window shut and was told where to go, I think they rate him highly.
