I really think this lad Pacheco has the potential to be something special.  I know it's only reserve level, but his control, awareness, vision and individual bits of skill are streets ahead of the rest.  He has scored quality free kicks now in consecutive games and also set up Threlfall's tonight.

Good to see Aquilani get a run out, few nice touches.

Reminds me a bit of Cesc Fabregas. Stood out above everyone else tonight. Threlfall and Amoo also appear to have potential as well as the young lad Aquilani.

Seems like Aquilani will be able to interchangably switch with Gerrard during matches, allowing Stevie to drop deep if he is getting man marked.

Pacheco is really coming on strong playing in a CM role this year, running at players, spraying it around, putting in through balls, taking free kicks.  Not really winning balls, but is getting much better at being clever and strong enough to not have it taken off him.

Mavinga has been great all season at CB, maybe he should be on the bench against Arsenal in the cup, he would be ideal to use against their young, pacey forwards.

so will Aqua be a straight replacement for Lucas then? sticking with the 4-2-3-1

Spot on mate.

He's head and shoulders above the rest in that team and it baffles me why he hasn't had a proper look-in with the first-team. He has the technique and trickery of Garcia (and he's a better dribbler than him too) and the awareness, vision and composure of someone more like Fabregas. His technique is superb and he's up to speed mentally. The only minor doubt is with the physical side of things, mind you he's not shy of getting stuck in, and besides, he'll develop physically with time (as he already has). I think he'll go right to the top.

Of the rest that played tonight ('keeper aside), I find it very hard to convince myself that any of them will make the grade at the highest level.

No he is supposed to play a lot higher up the pitch, effectivley where stevie is now so if anything I'd maybe expect to see Stevie take Lucas' place. Then again with Rafa who knows he might play him deeper just next to Masch.

He took up the Gerrard role in a 4-2-3-1 tonight. He looks like more of a 'through-baller' than anything else and is a completely different type of midfielder to Alonso - that much was obvious.

That was always obvious from the start we all knew he was a more offensive player. I just hope the season is nor beyond repair by the time he is match fit. How long do you lot reckon before Rafa will play him? Another 3 weeks maybe?

On the subject of reserve players - I thought one positive thing to come from last night was the debutant Kelly.
He took his chance and played well . It was a pity he came off injured.

He sort of shirked a challenge just after he came on (can hardly blame him) - and that was only for a 15 min spell.

I should think in about 10 days he'll be ready to play a significant part in things, and maybe another week after that to get him fully up to speed.
