Torres, gerrard, aquaman and yossi - Will we be ok if these 4 play together ?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Festy » Wed Oct 21, 2009 1:51 pm

Considering the fact that our lack of creativity right now is appalling and assuming Aquaman will be as good as Torres, Gerrard and Yossi technically, do you guys think we will see free flowing football like the end of last season and hammer teams week in week out with the front line of these 4 gentlemen ?

By the way, even Wigan look better than us atm.  :no

once we have our proper first team out on the pitch, and by those i mean; reina, johnson, carragher, agger, aurelio, riera, kuyt, mascherano, aquilani, gerrard and torres, we'll play good football again and we'll be beating people.

whether its too late by then or not is another matter.

3 of those four are currently injured :(
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

We've seen Torres, Benayoun, and Gerrard playing well together. So the question can be simplified to "will Aquaman be good enough?". And the answer is, I haven't even bothered to watch the youtube videos. Let's wait and see.

I think if he stays fit he'll be good enough. I'm worried that in the Premiership thats a sizable 'if'.

I've seen a bit of him, not much, and read quite a lot on forums. I watched him come on in the reserves match tonight and he was what you would expect, well balanced, intelligent, some nice instinctive passes and good off the ball running. If he stays fit he's bound to improve our team from what we're playing at the moment.

It'll be interesting to see how we line up if those four are all fit. There are quite a few possiblities, at the moment I'd favour Mascherano as the holding midfielder, Stevie in a more box to box role with Aquilani playing just behind Torres. Seems like thats a long way away at the minute though.

Well he cost a lot of money (Aquilani) and as much as people have questioned Rafa's transfer record (rightly IMHO) with the exception of Keane, he's by and large bought quite well when he's gone big. I thinbk we can take it as a given that he's a very good player judging by all reports, the only question would be whether or not he'll adapt. I've no idea as I've never seen him play, but Rafa has been around long enough now you would think to avoid disasters like Gonzales, Morientes and Dossena. To adapt he'll need to be robust, strong and not be afraid of the battle. If he's got those things, with his quality he should be a good player I think.

All that said, at this stage I think his signing was a bad mistake by the manager.

On the defence of Rafa, saying that he brought Alonso and Mascherano for the midfield is enough to make his C.V good enough when it comes to central midfielder tastes.

It doesn't seem to me Gerrard is a worse player after the Rafa tenure, that is, not that the alien and stubborn ways of Rafa have destroyed him as a player.

The last big buy after the Parry  era, Johnson, didn't go that bad.

So I think there's around of 75% of chances that Aqua being a good player. The injuries though, we can't afford another sick note.

I trust your posts through the time  you've spent in newkit, but I don't trust the threads you have read and the conclussions that can be taken out of games of the reserves and/or preseason. Nor I believe in Youtube. Or Stats without context,or Football Manager.

Your opinion (and mine, and everybody else's opinion) will be more valuable to me after you watch the five first games in the real english stuff of the premier league. Until then, a bit of a roulette we can say and some general aspects about his game.

Seen him actualy play for ten minutes tonight, well on the telly anyway, Didnt realise he was that pacey to be honest, Gangly an all ,

Never knew this an all.

In 2001, when he was 16, Chelsea and Arsenal offered him lucrative contracts but he declined the offer because it was his dream to play for his boyhood club Roma.[1]

We have to play him as he'd be one of our key players , our strongest line up when we have a full squad is.

                                                           Reina

Johnson                              Agger                      Skrtel                      Aurelio

                                                     Masch

Kuyt                                               Aquliani                             Yossi

                                                     Gerrard

                                                      Torres

Bench:
Diego Cav
Lucas
Carragher
Riera
Babel
Insua
Dossena

As someone just said in another thread, don't be surprised if Aquilani's the one playing higher up and not Gerrard. Regardless, I suddenly feel very optimistic now I've seen him play

Our best line up. Gerrard and Aqua can interchange depending on game situation and to stop the oppositions from marking them tightly.

Im sorry but im fast coming to the realization that our best 11 lineup given our current players doesnt have Kuyt in it... Benny down the right when hes fit for me with Riera down the left.... Still think that we need a top quality right winger regardless of the formation we play, but Kuyt is quite honestly nowhere near good enough for this level ...

But yes, overall id say with Aquilani, Gerrard, Riera, Benny and Torres we can very well expect our side to have too many options and possibilities going forward for most sides to cope with... add to that Johnson when playing well and you've got a very good attacking side regardless of the formation played...

My main concern regarding the side atm besides the obvious striker backup issue would have to be our centerbacks... put simply, as a unit they are nowhere near good enough to allow us to play the more expansive attacking style we'll probably have to play sometime soon to try and catch up with league leaders...

As I'm sure the other replies have said (couldn't be bothered to read them all), theres no problem with our first team. Its when one or two influential players are out, and that seems to be all too often atm.
