LIVERPOOL VS LYON - 19:45 tue 20th october cl group phase

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby bigmick » Tue Oct 20, 2009 9:55 pm

Well despite everything, I still think we've got a huge chance of beating the mancs at weekend. What's more I still think we've got a big chance of getting out of the group as well.

Win away at that little teams ground (which we will), win at Home against Fiorentina (which we will) and we've got 9 points. Very few teams fail to get through with 9 points. If we can get at least a point in Lyon (which we probably will), we'll definately qualify with ten. So that's that sorted, we'll get through in the Champions League.

Now as for the game against the Mancs, my guess is that cauldron of Anfield will be the hottest it's been since Garcia's goal put Chelsea out of the Champions League. That Chelsea team was twice the team we were, but the crowd and fate carried us over the line. This Manc team is currently only slightly better than us IMHO (if at all in truth), and I expect the fervour of the occasion to carry us through by two clear goals, comfortably. I don't to be honest expect it to be enough to propel us back into the title race as I think that's gone, but we can at least land a body blow on them c...s which is something. If someone can break Owen in half at some point during the course of it, we'll all feel better.

As I said on a couple of threads earlier, you don't change managers mid season and we shouldn't change this one. You can't assess where we are until the things panned out in its entirity. That said, if he does go and you are looking for someone who knows what it takes to win the title with two different clus in England, and would instantly have the respect of the players and fans, we do have one working for us at the moment. In at least a caretaker capacity, he might do quite a good job.

and Lucas, Benitez needs sacking for him alone (sorry)

lucas bashing again, ngog was by far the worst player on the pitch, lucas was lucas, nothing fancy

they took their chances, we didnt, simple as that, i still dont get rafa, whats wrong with kuyt and babel up front, why the hell was ngog playing the whole match

I dont think some of these :censored: know what it is to wear the shirt. We needed a massive overhaul in the summer, just to get shot of the sh!te we have here

Aquilani better be :censored: superman or we're a bit screwed
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Absolutely gutted here :(

We can't complain about the result, Lyon were the better team for me, even though it was a sickener to concede so late.  They slicked it around the pitch better than us and crucially looked more dangerous in the final third, just as Sunderland did on Saturday.

We looked disjointed, disorganised and devoid of any sort of ideas going forward.  It was an awful performance, in fact tonight's game and the Sunderland game are two of the worst Liverpool performances of Benitez's regime.

We have officially hit rock bottom lads.  Gerrard injured, Torres injured, all but out of the Champions league and the Mancs have the chance to knock us out of the title race on our own patch in the next game, they'll fancy it too.

That said, a win against them and as others have said a 4 point gap is recoverable over 28 games.  Can you honestly see it though??  We've lost against EVERY half decent side we've played this season, it's fu.cking horrendous form.  You have to believe and all that, but you just can't see where the next win is coming from can you?

I want to see more home grown players like we had chance to get lee cattermole but rafa didn't go for it.I like to see nolan come he is good attacking midfield and a local lad.We have lost the liverpool way we need to find it agian and soon. One of greatest things about liverpool was the way we attacked atm we look like a bolton pumping the ball long and hoping for a lucky knock on.Just not good enough.

The squad is becoming as poor as it was at the end of houlliers reign. I think we all know it. It concerns me also that lately gerrard has become a lot more injury prone. Major change is needed. This aint no knee jerk reaction. Just, i feel its time to to get it off my chest now.

Rafa is looking fooked. C'mon people: Voronin, n'gog, babel, lucas, skrtel, insua, plessis, degan, etc. What have we let go: keane, alonso, crouch, sinama,, bellamy, sissoko, arbeloa, warnock etc. We get rid for nothing and buy duds for more money. Figure that out.

It'll go one of two ways on Sunday Mick.  Either it will be a cauldron and the players will be lifted and have a blinder, or it will be a very nervous atmosphere which will transmit to our players.  I think the first couple of passages of play and the mood of our fans early in that game will have a huge bearing on the outcome.  I hope you're right mate.

Throw in Fiorentina and the performance against Debrecen...

Its looking grim.

Its amazing what a week can do in football mate, just lately every week seems the same. Theres not a lot optimistic to talk about in relation to LFC at the moment

We CAN recover from the situation we're in. I'm going to stick my head on the chopping block and back us to beat the scum and qualify for the CL proper, we might even offer a few surprises along the way  :;):

I'm actually not that worried.  Every time we struggled in the group stages under Rafa, we always made the semifinals during those seasons.   I just can't figure out why we always drop form like this every season.  It's like the whole team just looses their balls for a certain period of time.

:censored: off lucas bashing, the man is virtually non existent in midfield and we may aswell play with ten men.

this is quickly starting to look like the houllier regime

some optimism from mick there. This team is slightly only poorer than united? C'mon, i hate them, but they are light years away from us and are in another re-building process. They going for 4 titles  in a row in the premier league. Which is far harder to win than any of our 18 titles were.

IM SO PIISSED OFF THAT I REALLY WANT TO GET RID OF RAFA AND GO BRITISH. WHO? JUST NOW THERE IS ONLY ONE CANDITATE  FOR US. BRING BACK KENNY. IF NOT WE NEED THE IRISHMAN MON.

Worst thing of all I didnt really expect us to win tonight. Lyon paid us too much respect first half but put that right after the break. You only had to look at the line ups and what we put on the pitch to see it would be a tough ask and so it proved.Still a chance we can go through but we have to win in Lyon and Fiorentina will be no pushovers at home either. I will shut my eyes for most of the game Sunday as right now I just canot bare to consider the implications of that  :no Not good.
