Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Bad Bob » Tue Oct 20, 2009 3:46 am

The /10 polls have all been locked.  Bammo's a good poster and these were no doubt started with the best of intentions but it seems like they've caused a few people some grief.  They'll now fade away quietly.

As for the lack of discussion on here of late, I'm with Scottbot: this season's been dire to date and shows no signs of improving any time soon.  We're painful to watch and that makes us painful to discuss.  Sad really.

People discuss the situation as it is - not good. We've lost nearly half our league games, and while winning at Stamford Bridge last season was not something we EXPECT to do every season, three of the defeats were games we won last season

Chelsea (a) 08/09 W1-0, 09/10 L0-2
Sunderland (a) 08/09 W1-0, 09/10 L0-1
A Villa (h) 08/09 W5-0, 09/10 L1-3

It is difficult enough to accept these defeats without having the 'happy clappy' brigade trying to demean anyone who is ANALYSING the problems rather than pretending there aren't any.

As for where things are posted, well it makes more sense to keep much of it in the main board so you can see what is new rather than have to fish around for it. If a topic isn't popular it will sink down the forum.

And absences of old regulars is unfortunate, I myself took a break from here because I think every now and then you need to. It's great if all we have to argue about is whether Kuyt is a good wide player or who is worse, Spearing or Lucas, but too much arguing added to defeats is not good for people and not really for the forum. So please people stick to disagreeing about a point made, try and avoid slurs and indirect slating ie the "if you don't get behind the team you're not a true fan" (kind of cr ap). You really think every fan in Anfield was saying after the villa defeat that all was fine and dandy?!?!?! Might that be the same fans that booed Lucas?!?!

Get real. And REAL is the best way to look at the sitution, not don blinkers and bury your head in the sand. We could mathematically win the league, but the way we're going we could lose nine or 10 games this season. If we play like we did last season we could catch up, but if we were capable of playing like we did last season then why haven't we? Maybe Aquilani will spark a renaissance, more likely we're back a step or two on last season and Rafa will need another summer or two of £40m to get back to square one.

And even if you put aside arguments about whether the money is there, is the manager tactically astute? How many can honestly, hand on hearts, say that they were overjoyed when they heard and saw the line-up for Saturday? How many thought "three points in the bag" ? And while some have defended mr 65+ minutes substitutions, how many are sat thinking "when is he going to change things?" I'm sure more the latter than former.

I tend not to come on here until the following morning, you avoid the bickering that is inevitable when people are reacting instantly and haven't had time to think about it first. Sure your opinion may not change dramatically, but you might find other people's opinion less irritating or much easier to swallow and your own reaction should be more calm and collected ie you get a 'cooling off period'. Most of Saturday evening I could have quite easily started a thread "sack Rafa", although for now part of it would be only to gauge reaction or 'test the water' because I get the feeling plenty on here are coming to the conclusion Rafa isn't going to win the league. If he isn't getting the money then that isn't likely to change in a hurry, and frankly if he needs more money than he's getting then who do people think he's going to sign that will make us favourites for the league - Ronaldo? Rooney? Drogba? Messi? Perhaps we need to shelve ideas that money will at some point no longer be an issue and plan for what we have now - or worse. Perhaps we need a manager who can turn water into wine, who doesn't need to spend £40m a summer to make the team look like a mid-table side. Because in six seasons of limited funds we came close but no cigar. And after we'd missed out on the cigar, we're now battling it out for a roll up.....................

you know a forum is going down the sh!tter when...
1) people are more interested in bitching about each others' point of view than discussing and debating it
2) people criticize certain posters who at least try to stick to certain footballing matters in a slightly wordy manner
3) threads about how terribly bad the forum is begin to stink the place out
4) people start throwing about the 'so-called-fans' insult when other people have the temerity to point out negatives and how they would like to see them put right
5) the real world is dead

Don't worry about it mate  :D

-------------------------------

As has been mentioned, my intentions were good, the methods were not. :D I think the ongoing problem was the (technical) way the forum works. If the threads/polls are left then they disappear. The discussion about the polls then meant people went to see what the talk was about, some voted, the polls then shoot up the page, more complaints, more people looking and voting and so on....

This place is on edge because of our results and performances. We're all looking for reasons why we aren't doing well and this leads to Pro/Anti Rafa arguments, slating of the squad and other squabbles as we take out our frustrations. If we go on a good run then the mood here will obviously lift. There'll always be pro/anti rafa though

I don't see where it says 1 win wipes out 4 defeats....

A win would bring us closer to Manu in the league table with 29 games to play.....lot of games to go then ???

I was referring to the post above mine, where LFC2007 with 5 times the post count called me a spammer.

This place is too confusing these days.

Yes but it doesn't mean we are instantly back in the mix, we are playing badly this season so far, struggling for consistency and one win won't be enough to turn that around, a couple of convincing wins against good oppo would do that but at the oment I just can't see it, the team balance is totally wrong.

I agree the more positve fans of course say 29 games left if we win at mancs we have 29 games to close the gap , thats fair enough.

But we also have 29 games to fall more behind just because we have 29 games in current form its more negitive for me atm then a positive.

Like I said in another post 4 wins 1 draw in next 5 will give me some confidence we have put this bad form behind us but its a big ask if you look at who we have.

I think we just need to get a good run going to give the players more confidence and the fans something to cheer about.

A win against the mancs will lift the team but we must carry it forward to the next game and build on it.

If we don't start getting our act together then the season will become a battle for fourth not a battle for the title.

No one win taken in isolation never tells the whole story.  We'd have to see where things went from there before looking back and seeing if that win was a turning point or a blip before normal business resumed.  With that said, this is the Mancs we're talking about here and a win over them would provide a fantastic platform for turning the proverbial corner.  Surely we can all agree that beating the Mancs--particularly given the form we're in--would be an absolutely massive shot in the arm? ???
